My grandmother's siblings and step-siblings were all in St. Josephs from 1920-1930:
John and Joseph Lakeland
Mary and Florence (male) McDonald

I wrote the sisters but they said they no longer have the information. Has anyone had luck finding information from this time period?

Does anyone remember that 5 Saint Bernard dogs (pups) were sent from Switzerland to Cardinal Spellman, who sent us (St. Joseph's)one of the pups named Amour. He had his doghouse in the back of the Infirmary and Sr. Ann Edward (nurse) would let us take him out for daily walks. This took place in early 1960's. The time I spend in St. Joseph's were the best years of my childhood.

Hello. My mother, Doris Whittemore, was a social worker at St. Joseph's in the 1970s. Mom is 90 now. She's in good physical health and is as kindhearted as she ever was. But her memory loss is severe and I find I'm curious about her experience of those days. If anyone has any recollections, I'd be grateful to hear them. Thank you.

Your mom was great. I had her for years. I rember planting Bulbs with her every season. She was so loving. I rember her early 70s Chevy Malabu, green I think. She would let me start it when she was going. She found me a weekend voluntier that turned into an adoptive parent. 40 years on now and I still rember her. I was there from 69 to 76. She made a difference.
I was the little boy with the bad eye and glasses. Thank her for me.

Would love to find old photos of Saint Joseph's Home for Children. My father was there for several years from 1919 and stayed there for four years or more. He was taken out by his father's sisters and raised in NJ. We went there to visit as children and he was very attached to several nuns. Sister Roche and Sister Mary Immaculate. They stayed in contact over his life time. He must have thought the place was beneficial to him. He achieved a deal in his lifetime and I'm sure he would thank his humble beginnings as an inmate, their terminology not mine for children they cared for at St. Joes, it will always hold fond memories for me.

I, too, remember the St. Joseph's festivals and seeing Sister Frances Carmel and Sister Ann Charles there. Would love to know what happened with all of the nuns from Our Lady of Loretto in cold spring new york - the nice and not so nice ones (St. Ann Charles). Graduated in 1972 from OLL.

I found my grandmother, Lillian Sterzer and her brothers, John, William and George at St. Joseph's home in 1905. They were on the 1910 census with their parents. My grandmother would never talk about her past. My mother once asked for her for her parents' names for a baby book, but my grandmother would only say all of her family were deceased.
