I'd think since he signs the paychecks, he can make the rules. If I don't like his rules I'd look for another job.

Well if he's asking for you not to speak Spanish to customers/clients ok but to communicate with others in the office why not?!

I agree with thinker. It's up to your boss to make the rules and regulations. I don't see nothing wrong with that. Now if it's a customer that needs help in spanish then it's a different story.

You might want to ask your boss why?

It's rude to speak in a foreign language while having a conversation In front of others who feel they were a part of the conversation as well but can't participate because they don't understand. Fyi.

you have rights to speak the language of your choice where ever you may be. In the work place it can fall into discrimination, racism etc.

Is the boss the owner of the company? Does he really sign the checks? Or is he just the supervisor of a company...most companies have policies and the supervisor just can't make rules as he wishes. The employee is safe as long as he/she is within company policy. I agree that it's rude but its not against the law nor does it violate any civil rights. Ask him why and if its not a valid reason and tou are not breaking the written rules than don't waste your time worrying about it. Some supervisors just let the position go to their head.

I'd offer to teach him/her. After all, we are NO LONGER a minority BUT the majority. Times are changing, it is simply a fact.

First off I would not ever recommend putting your real name on here if you did so.

Second, what company is this and what is the name of this boss. Well now you can't give us that info if you put ur real name on here. Unless you no longer work there

you do have rights, if you are fired for speaking spanish then you are fired for talking your native langauge if you are hispanic. if you merely speak spanish as a language you learned then it does not violate anything. the protects against race, sex, age. report them to department of fair employment and housing.

typical american way of thinking, come take peoples land and expect them to do whatever you say. as if it wasn't enough you treat others like crap, give low wages, and expect to have everything given to you. maybe you should be speaking spanish here. this was after all mexico. whats next you gonna want everyone to bleach their skin and wear contacts so their eyes look like yours too?
