Well Im atheist, so i personally dont believe that any of the "scripture" is real, but since this topic asked for scripture only, to answer your question from a scripture point of veiw,
(according to the bible)
there once was a Roman Soilder who approached Jesus,
he told Jesus that one of his servents was ill, and wanted to know if Jesus would heal him, when Jesus told him, yes he would come,
the soilder told jesus that he (the soilder) was a man of great power and influence that he commanded many men, and when he spoke he knew his orders were done, that he did not need Jesus to come himself but only to speak that his servent would be healed and he knew that it would be done.
Jesus said that never had he seen such faith even amoungst his own followers. and that his servent would be healed.
this Roman who did not believe had more faith than Jesus's own disiciples, who would of benifited from his teachings and example more?
also when Jesus started his ministry he did not go to the temple to find his followers, he walked amoungst the people,
Christians are supposed to be the light, to lead others to Christ through example,
You need light in dark places, not in well lit rooms.

To hang out with those in darkness? Well Jesus came to save that which was lost. But as you know from the Bible, He did not stay with those who rejected what He told them or the Word of the Lord. Mankind has a choice to believe the Christ and His Word or willfully reject it. If they reject willfully Christians are not to as you say hang out with them. "What communion hath light with darkness?" There are many others who are lost that need to be told the good news instead of wasting time on those who have rejected the truth.

To be Christian is to be Christ like, nowhere in any of his teachings did Jesus ever speak like you,
he said love thy neighbor,
not love them if only they believe like you,
the teaching accredited to Christ in your bible are sound teachings, its a shame more christians dont follow them.

also when Thomas doubted, did Jesus say, well you reject me, get out?
no he embrassed him and showed him the nail scars
and showed him the way.
for a so called christain to say that it is a waste of time to be that lighthouse to those who are in darkness is not a very Christian thing to do,
you remind me of those who say look how great I am for Prasieing the Lord, instead of saying look how great the Lord is,
pretty sad when an atheist is more christlike han a christian.

we just have a different opinion of what a Christian should be, I believe a Christian should be a light to the world, that people should be able to tell be the presence about you that you are a good man and a man of God, and that your actions are Christ like,
you think that if you are Christians that you should only gossip with the other pew warmers who think if they show up every Sunday and put a couple dollars in the collection plate, shout praise Jesus just a little louder than the old bag sitting beside you that this will get you a ticket to heaven, I don’t.
I have told this story before but maybe you need to hear it,
one day on my way home from work my car broke down, as I sit beside the four lane a car pulled in to help, now this was like a little Chevy chevet, not a luxury Cadillac, a man asked if I needed help and we looked at my car, not having any tools or the part my car needed the man offered me a ride home and I (foolish I know) accepted, the next morning early there was a knock at my door, this same man had returned with a tool box gave me a ride to the parts store and then back to my car, and helped me repair my car.
turns out this man is a preacher from a very small church on the west side of Charleston, this man takes whatever money he can often his own and buys blankets and sandwich stuff and bottled water and every night regardless of the weather he goes around to different places in the Kanawha valley area looking for homeless and people in need to see if he can help them.
We talked about religion only a few times, when I told him I was atheist he said that was "ok, that I may have given up on God but God had not given up on me."
Now this man to me is what a Christian should be.
What have you done for the lord lately?

The reason why this is for biblical doctrine only is that on these other posts they are serious people talking about the Bible and has to listen to people like you. When you make your disrespectful comments putting them down...Im sure you didn't act this way when that preacher gave you a ride. But if you wanna hear God's Word or have a biblical discussion than you are on the right post.Yes, Jesus came to save sinners from their sin,but the ones who reject him and don't give heed to his Word, those are the ones a witness of Christ is suppose to shake the dust off his feet as a testimony against them, but it's not 2 late "YET" for you to give your life 2 him,but one day it will be...may you humble yourself to the LORD b4 it's 2 late.

Thank you cabin for your kind words,
I was not always an atheist, at one time I was a Christian, even studied to become a preacher,
My family is very religious, and I have several uncles, cousins etc who are pastors and at least three gospel singing groups in my family.
And of all my family many always thought one day I would be a great pastor,(boy were they wrong, lol)
I started studying when I was about 17 with the intention to write a book on how science and religion could work together, and over the course of a couple years of research for my book, the more I learned about world history and science, the more I came to believe the way I do today.
I was always told that the bible is Gods word and Gods word is infallible. But when I saw things that could not be true, and some things that just was not historically accurate, and through study of social conditions of the people who lived in the time the bible was written, I learned of their motivation to do so.
I realized how I could believe any of it,
I also studied many other ancient religions and saw the similarities and some of the things that Christianity just blatantly plagiarized or stole from other cultures, and over time just came to my own conclusions.
I have never said that the way I feel is for everyone, there are many who need religion in their lives and it can do wonderful things,
The teachings accredited to Christ are wonderful morale teachings, and the world would be a better place if more Christians followed these teachings.
I know I get on topix and sometimes go on my little rants about my beliefs, and maybe I shouldn’t do that, but usually it’s in response to some idiot who says that it’s a waste of time for a Christian to act like one.
Now that I've had my little rant on this thread ill let others post hopefully the way the thread author intended.

creek boy,
looks like you made your mind up before you even made the thread,
If you need scripture justification for you to turn your back on someone who may need your light in their life just cause they dont live the lifestyle that you do, or because they may not have the faith you do, then im sure that Child of God or Tommy or many of the other "Christians" can search that book you cling to and find them.
but here is a vs for you
Matthew 7 :21 “Not everyone who says to me,‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me,‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them,‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

I don't think you want to discuss the bible, what you are wanting to do is PREACH the bible. You should rename your thread, "Person with Sara Ann IP wants to preach their version of Christianity and have everyone agree I am right".

These verses are speaking of evil acts not the people themselves. Refrain from evil acts, but wittness to those who are on the wrong path.

<quoted text>Preacher Boy, God hasn't given up on you. I don't think you've given up on God either... You know you really have a talent here I believe. I believe you have the knowledge and drive to do a lot of good things. If not in the name of God, then just for the sake of helping out your fellow man. You obviously know what is right. Im just trying to say that you could be a very bright light for the word of God. The way it supposed to preached and followed.. Maybe just think about that.
I couldn't agree more. The problem with most Christians is that they think being a Christian means you are a better person. When in fact it only makes one more responsible for those who do not believe.

Yes, I've read this before when you posted it. You know a lot about the Bible and seem to have a good heart. You are wasting your time being an atheist. If you ask Him, God will make Himself real to you. When I say "wasting your time", I'm referring to your good qualities I mentioned.

I have to agree with Cabin and Preacherboy. They seem to know more of what a Christian should be than most Christians.

Why do christians think its okay to burn crosses in people's yards or set fires for being in an inter-racial relationship or for being a gay couple? Is that right?
