Why is the sheriff's office working speeders on Hwy 24? Wouldn't their time be better spent patrolling and looking for thieves and drug pushers?

How in the world do you do think drug pusher and thieves get around? They drive! Most drug pushers and theives are stopped for speeding and other minor traffic violations and caught. Stop posting crap you don't know about to start rumors and mis-understandings. Just for your information, Recently Delta County caught a subject in a stolen car, with items in the car from burglaries that ocurred at residences on FM 904. on another traffic stop, marijuana was found in a vehicle that led to the arrest of a citizen in Delta County who was growing plants of marijuana at his house. That arrset led Law enforcement to another subject who was providing most of Delta County with marijuana. When Law enforcement came to his door, the "Drug Pusher" was flushing pounds of marijuan down the toliet. If you would like an education in law enforcement you can go to school. Just goes to show you the kind of people that are posting non-sense on this blog trying to create problems. Stick with what you know!

The sheriff's office does catch a lot of people who have broken other laws like burglary and drug crimes during traffic stops. No one can deny that.

However, the budget for the Delta County Sheriff's office is over $800,000 Delta county tax dollars per year. Are we getting our money's worth??

The average budget for each precinct for roads and bridges is about $60,000 per year. Can you imagine what the Commissioner's could do with an additional $800,000 per year??

Getting marijuana growers off the street is a good thing, but I would still like to have some good county roads to drive on also. The $800,000 that we give to the sheriff's department could be put to better use that giving out traffic citations.

Money has to be spent on law enforcement and no one is disputing that ours is one of the lowest paid Sheriff's office in the state. What we need is collection on those tickets, and more industry to help aleviate expenses. If more people would focus on that instead of bickering, we wouldn't have road issues.

Where do you get YOUR information Alpharetta?

What in the heck does the budget got to do with Deputies doing their job working drug interdiction, catching violators WHO DON't REGISTER THEIR VEHICLES WHO LIVE IN DELTA COUNTY, people with warrants, THOSE WHO DON'T CARRY INSURANCE ON THEIR VEHICLES (WHO LIVE IN DELTA COUNTY) and DWI's on Hwy 24 or any other road? Face it, you've got a personal beef with the Sheriff's Department and have nothing better to do other than to make problems when YOU are the problem. Make those with tickets pay thier fines and you will have your money for the budget. The Sheriff's Department doesn't issue warrants for those who don't pay fines the JP does. Get your facts straight and stick to what your supposed to be doing.....MI.

Working traffic is NOT the job for the Delta S.O. That is the Texas Department of Public Safety's job. They are well trained to do this and have the right equipment.

The wear and tear on the vehicles costs too much. The dangerous acts they pull turning on speeders is an accident waiting to happen.

I think they do it just for the thrill of turning on the redlights and being Mr. Big with a gun on their hip.

Sets a bad example of our county with people from surrounding communities. Reminds me of Buford P. Coaltrain.

I doubt that the deputies would even know how to calibrate the radar equipment, or are even trained in the proper use of it.

Pearland:

I get my information about the county expenses from public records. They are available 8 hours per day 5 days per week in the county clerks office.

I don't have any complaints about the Sheriff's Department. I would like to see the county get its priorities straight.

I don't have an issue with the deputies, they only do what they are told.

I do have an issue with the sheriff and the jail administrator.

Concerned Citizen is an idiot of the highest degree. It is the job of Delta County to work the Highways. Where did you get the idea that only DPS can work the highway? Equiped? Deputies have a radar. They've been through training, which is more than you can say for yourself. With every post you show just how stupid you are. Give-up and move away for the County's sake. DO think DPS work our highways 24/7? What world do you live in?

Things must be boring at the S.O.

I didn't say only the DPS could work the highways. I said only the DPS should work the highways. Move away, I don't think so. I don't live in Cooper.

Who's at the S.O., besides yourself? Who said you lived in Cooper? Thanks for proving my point about every new post you make! You said is wasn't the job of the S.O. to work the Highways and if DPS is not doing it all the time, who's job is it then? Make up your mind about what your saying. The point is that you no nothing about what your talking about and are doing nothing more than starting trouble.

Concerned Citizen,
What do you have against county revenue? Don't you know that money collected from those tickets provides more income for the county. It may not be a lot but it would help. Maybe you should study up on the JP's office duties.

If you don't live in Cooper how do you know so much about the county and why do you care? I'll tell you because MI is calling it like it is. Don't be naive everyone knows your name and it isn't Concerned Citizen.

Alpharetta, Ga.

According to the minutes of the commissioner's court, the budget for Sheriff's Department was approximately $500,000. This was actual amount for 2005,and budget amount for 2006 and 2007. 2007 was closer to $550,000. Are you saying the records inside the courthouse do not match the commissioner's minutes? Here is the link in case you don't believe me.

I had a question. You stated above that the budget was $800,000. Then you posted that your information came from the court records. Did you see them and did they say $800,000?
