School tax rate

The 2007 school tax notices are figured at the rate at which taxes will be IF the school bond passes in the upcoming November election.

WHY? It looks to me as if the taxing authorities have pre-determined that the bond will pass, and are saving the trouble of printing new notices.

Wouldn't this be "putting the horse before the cart?"

How one votes in the election is of no matter. For or Against is a principle of American life. I would think that the notices would have been sent out at the "proper" tax rate as it NOW STANDS, not as a "projected" figure.

I don't see how it is legal to send a tax bill with a "projected" rate.

I thought the tax rate had to be determined at a certain time of year, and this is what people are "billed" for taxes

Upon reading this link, you will see that the school board should have set the tax rate in August or September. This is the rate that SHOULD have appeared on the tax statements sent out by the Delta County Tax Assessor's office.

The tax rate that appears on the tax statements ARE NOT ACCURATE at this time, and should NOT have appeared on the tax statements.

Why was this done. Do some think the average Delta countian is THAT stupid?? Apparently.

I had the situation explained to me by the interim superintendent.

The tax rate has to be billed at the "highest" anticipated rate. In this case $ 1.35 per one hundred dollars evaluation.

This means that if the bond election passes, the tax rate will be $ 1.35 per one hundred dollars evaluation.

If the bond election fails, the tax rate will be $ 1.17 per one hundred dollars evaluation.

This 18 cents will equate to about $135.00 per year in more taxes on a house valued at 75,000.00 if the bond election passes.

That's not much. Maybe a new pair of shoes.

$ 135.00 is alot to some.
Raised appraisals.
Higher rates will mean more than $135.00.
It's not like they aren't already sucking on a teet that is starting to dry up.
I have to live within my budget so if I can't just raise my salary then I get to do without.
But that wouldn't work for those who want a new stadium would it.
86 acres owned by the ISD is not enough to build a school on I guess.
