Hi msity,
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)blatantly states that taking Fosamax could injure you by making your bones brittle and more prone to fractures. In fact, numerous lawsuits have already been filed by those severely affected by the drug. More information is seen here
Hope you're alright.
I would rethink the doctor's advice, I had very bad results from Fosamax.

I have a question if any one can answer.... I have a kidney stone 7mm and my doctor wants me to take Fosamax., Does anyone have any info if this is a good thing to do?
Ask your pharmacist about this, I would say do not take the Fasamax, especially if you take other vitamins like D3 and Calcium.

I just completed 3 trips to the Hospital for stones. Finally after 10 days they inserted a stent and did the surgery to break em up. After 2 Cat scans they determined there was residual after the surgery causing enormous pain. Now home for a week, Testicle pain arising. Dam it!!! This is my second round of these suckers, I'm 61 and just want to stay away from any more pain like this. Since I'm back home for 7 days I haven't taken any of those crazy medications they send you home with, Delaudin and Morphine, my wife has had them and she says the pain is 5 times natural childbirth. My heart goes out to all of you with this terrible disease. Good Luck!!

Certain health problems have indeed been linked to bone drugs like Fosamax. Many older men and women may have been hopeful of the promising bone drug, while they have been proven to work, it seems that its long-term safety still needs to be clarified. Numerous patients have already moved forward in their legal course, visit for more relevant information.

I also have PXE and have had 13 kidney stones pass so far, along with several other medical conditions that they Doctors are not ready to say that the PXE is the cause or a contributing factor.
But, I did have extensive tests performed at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, for the kidney stone issue and it was found that my kidneys were sloughing off more calcium that they should be, and they could come up with no other explanation for the multitude of stones. The nephrologist stated that, "my ongoing kidney stone production cannot be explained by diet alone...but with the lack of studies regarding PXE in relation to kidney stones is still very lacking.
My point is, you will get different answers to the same questions, but don't just accept that it is not related, especially since PXE causes a calcification of the elastic tissues.

Sean please contact me. I too have pxe w/ kidney stones. I'd like to swap information. Maybe it'll help w/ treatment.
