In 1949 I was playing with a dance band in Akron, Ohio. I recall roaming around town and walking past a Packard dealer. It was featuring a Gold Packard in celebration. Anyone in Pebble Beach know what that was all about? Funny that I never forgot that in almost 60 years. Akron was a depressing town. It was my last job as a musician. The club where I worked was "mobbed" -- matter of fact the whole Buckeye State was under mob control. Made no difference -- a year later I was in Korea. Who could have guessed another war was in the works. Just like now it never ends.

Interesting that no one in PB really cares about the price of petrol. However, they're probably more concerned about those horrendous fires. I know I would be. Watching it on TV in carefree Connecticut I find it almost impossible to believe that it is happening so fierce and so often.

Bay State drivers liked to own the Packard so that they could say, "I paaaarked the Paaaaackaaaaaard in the Haaaaaarvaaaaard Yaaaaard."
