Why is it that the catholic church in Pearsall is run down? There are no church functions for the youth or youth camps or anything of that sort. As a matter fo fact I do not recall seeing a catholic church bus or van to take youth to camps or seminars or religious functions. Where does all the money collected go to.---just wondering -----please comment and do not hate.

I DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHERE THE MONEY IS GOING BUT THE FATHER AND THAT LADY HE HAS ALWAYS FOLLOWING HIM AROUND SURE KEEP THE CHURCH HOT IN THE MORNINGS. WE CAN'T EVEN ENJOY THE SERVICES CAUSE IT IS JUST WAY TOO HOT IN THERE. WE GIVE ENOUGH MONEY TO THE PLATE AND THERE ARE LIKE 5 MASSES AND THERE IS STILL NO MONEY TO PAY THE ELECTRIC BILL? I AM SERIOUSLY THINKING OF CHANGING RELIGIONS BECAUSE IT IS OBVIOUS WE ARE ONLY THERE FOR WHAT WE CAN CONTRIBUTE TO SOMEONE SOMEWHERE I AM SURE. I WAS BORN AND RAISED A CATHOLIC BUT THIS PAST WEEK I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT 2 OTHER RELIGIONS (FUNERAL SERVICES) AND SO FAR I AM TOTALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE BAPTIST CHURCH. I AM SERIOUSLY THINKING ABOUT IT NOT THAT I WOULD BE MISSED I AM SURE. I GO TO THE EARLY MASS BECAUSE THAT IS THE ONLY MASS THAT IS LIVELY WITH MUSIC AND ALL, THEIR CHOIR IS AWESOME, THE OTHER SERVICES FEEL LIKE YOU ARE IN A WAKE INSTEAD OF A MASS CELEBRATION.

Wow --you are so right!!!! I too have been to a baptist church and they had a christian rock group and it was great. I learned more that day than the usual ritual sitting standing kneeling etc. I was just wondering why their was not such a program like that in the catholic church. I can say it was more upto date with the youth! The youth are the future. I read in current about this Matt Fitch wanting to do this and this is why I questioned the Catholic church services.

It takes a village, hello.
You want improvement? Get involved.Offer your volunteer serivces. Find out how much money it does take to "upgrade" and make improvements.

I can't even understand Father Andrew's sermons. It's a shame that more people aren't complaining about this. And yes, the money he is collecting is going for new pews. Goodness, we need a restroom closer to the main building, that 's what we need! Only in Pearsall...

I am not involved because I do not live there---I just went there the other day while visiting and had not been there in 20 yrs---Oh and the village is there but where is the chief, where is all that money going ---I think it should stay in pearsall before it get sent out to help others. I am a firm believer that if you do not take care of yourself first how can you help others if you can not take care of your own. Lift yourself up first so that you can provide for others later---example: your in a plane --oxygen mask fall due to plane plungeing and you have a child what do you do---help yourself so that you can be alert to help your child---apply this to the church sounds selfish but it works.

To those complaining about Father Andrew and the lady always following him, first of all I think Father Andrew has brought alot of people to the church, before hardly anyone would go to church. I no longer live in Pearsall, but when I visit my mom I go to church there and yes it is hot, but we are going to church to worship god, not to be all nice and cool! Besides how do you all expect for the church to be cool if certain people don't donate the proper amount of money???? Giving $1 or $ 2 dollars here and there is not going to pay the electricity bill. It is pretty ridiculous if you are thinking about changing your religion because the church is hot what a selfish person contribute more money!!!

I don't know about donating any more money. Father Andrew started his double and triple collections a few months ago and pearsall isn't a rich place. and i don't know about more people coming to church, either. alot of them are going to catholic services out of town--and i am talking about hard core catholics who are starting to desert us. i went to the senior mass this year and it was NOTHING like the ones we used to have. What a shame.

Pearsall may not be a rich place, I know that I lived there for 18 years but that should not stop people from donating more money to the church if every person would give an extra dollar or two it would really make a difference. I know there is two collections alot of the time, but only one is for our church, the other gets sent to San Antonio. You can't say that the church does not have a big turnout compared to when we had the other father. You must not remember how dead the church was before Father Andrew became our Father. People spend more money on gas going out of town to another church, when they can contribute that to the local Catholic church. Senior masses have never had a large turn out, I know that my senior mass back in 02 had very few people as well, not only that but you have to remember that not everyone is a Catholic, so not all the seniors are going to show up to the mass.

I haven't seen any new people come to our church since Father Andrew took over. You must be thinking about all the quinceneras that we have. And the senior masses I remember had alot more people show up before. All I have seen more of is collection plates being passed around. I even had a friend of mine who visited the church ask me why wine was not used in the mass. I was too busy fanning myself to answer. Neither of us could understand him. Maybe if the microphone was turned up higher we could hear too. I would never go to the Baptist church like the other people on this talk, but I would definitely think about going to another catholic church somewhere else.

you people should be ashamed of yourselves!!! gahhhhhh!!!

jesus had to carry that cross while being tortured for you ungrateful sinners and then he got pinned up on it and died for you.. and your all complaining about the money and the air conditioner....boooooooooooo.. .

now i want you all to kneel down and give me 3 our fathers and 4 hail marys....

father andrew knows that 90% of you people at church have enough money for beer and liqour and crack rock the saturday night before..come on i been to church and seen some of you there that have partied your asses of the night before...i think if you would take the money you wasted on beer, liqour, crack rock, etc and put it in the collection plate we would probably have a new church with a cold a/c....

Oh well, Jesus died on the cross. you just have to be happy with pig slop now. oh and you partiers should be ashamed of yourselves wanting ac or a restroom in the church building or to be able to understand your priest. that's just asking for tooooooo much. that doesn't make any sense. but i'm sure the father will like your logic. he's probably getting another collection plate ready for you. after all, those plates are always empty.

Catholic,
From what I hear the priest is rude. I also hear he has said he doesn't want change in the collection basket he wants bills.THAT is rude and unappreciative. If he has that attitude who wants to attend? And as for Bambi's comment I agree with her, if the other pastors are more hospitable why not go where you are welcomed and that the last 75 cents you happen to find in your purse for collection is appreciated. I sometimes forget to go to the ATM, and dig around in my purse for money. It's the good intention that counts.

Christian,
It is like you said "From what I hear", have you ever been to church there? Do you know who Father Andrew is?? I wouldn't say anything if you don't know! Now about the no change deal, I don't remember hearing about it, I put change in the basket, when I don't have any cash and so do many other people. If the church is in need of money for the bills or whatever it may go to, I think cash, checks and change are welcome.
The biggest complaint people have is that it is too hot in the church, well that is why more money should be donated! It is like Lupe said, all those people have money for beer and drugs but no money to contribute to the church.
WHAT A SHAME!!!!

I am so glad that there is someone else out there that goes to church even though it is hot! Someone who isn't afraid to sweat a little! We need more of us out there! More importantly someone who doesn't insult and talk bad about Father Andrew, he is a good man and I think he has brought a lot more people to the Catholic Church!! Take Care!

The plates are always empty?? I wonder why?? People have better things to do with their money, like buy drugs and beer? No wonder the Church is hot, people don't want to donate any money, so the AC bill can't get paid!

no no no. the plates are never empty, that is what i meant. gees. anyway, instead of that new pew fund worth thousands of dollars, the father wants, he should be paying the electric bill. there is no reason for us to be hot in there. those pews are fine. we need a restroom in there. not new pews. i've only seen two that are broken. can't you all see that? there are old people like my grandmother that have diabetes that are not just hot, they are burning up and then they have to walk across the street to go to the restroom. that is what is shameful, catholic!

I am sure there are more than 2 pews broken! There is no where to put a restroom in the church, it is too small! My grandmother has diabetes too, but she goes to church on Sunday at 7:00 A.M., and it is not hot then also because it is the spanish mass and she understands it.

Too small? Why not close up that side parking lot? It's a waste of space anyway. Most people park by the sidewalk or the main parking lot. half of it could easily be made into restrooms. maybe ask that man across the street with the big lawn how much he wants for his land--it would be good parking for the church hall too. what idiot would build a building without restrooms, anyway??? that is so lame.
