True. MLK is a highly renowed figure within the history of our country. Livestock??? Simply don't get it

Although your comments are true and I respect them, but even if there was no school you will have those parents that say " ay, I wish you kids were in school". Simply because they are some kids that not even the parents/grandparents can put up with. So weather we had today off or not, no one is ever happy.

Well I agree that the importance of what Martin Luther King Jr stood for should be recognized but there are many holidays that the school doesn't take. They have taken off the Friday for the junior livestock show for many many years. It isn't about the animals its about the kids. And whether they are white brown black red yellow or whatever other color they are important. You can't pull the race card and say its cuz he's black and their white. Thats ridiculous. It works the other way around too. MLK fought for minority rights and equality. Still to this day people are still fighting over minuscule things like which days off the kids get from school. Do you even know if your children know about the man you want celebrated? I know mine do. The school talked about him on Monday and discussed what he stood for. Sad thing is that most of the parents didn't ask their kids what they learned today. The school board also votes on the school calendar so you can go to a meeting and voice your opinion if you would like it heard. Topix isn't going to change anything that the school district does. Good luck. See you at the livestock show. My kids are excited to go!
