Former Mamaroneck bookstore owner is new principal at Pearl River school
PEARL RIVER - Veteran educator Fred Weitz owned a children's bookstore in Mamaroneck for five years before changing careers and becoming an elementary school teacher.

I applaud the Weitz's efforts. The educational system would benefit from more people like them, who bring maturity, life experience and a perspective unlike many of todays younger teachers and adminstrators to the job. I went back to school to get my Masters in Guidance and Counseling after 25 years in the automotive business and became a school counselor. It was an incredible experience and there is tremendous value in having "older" educators on staff.
Good luck to him and any other "Gay Beards and Hairs" out there who are out there on the front lines.
