this is what i think. as a child growing up in hawaii fireworks were not illegal. we used to play with them and once in awhile someone would get hurt but not serious.since the law states u need a permit for red firecrackers thats when i notice the increase in illegal ariel fireworks. about the smoke, its the fountains and the paperless firecrackers that they sell in the store that makes lots of smoke. thats what i think...

The irritability factor of fireworks is due to development. In days past, homes always had SPACE from which to launch. There was always someplace empty in which those things would land. Now days those things have nooo.. place to land. It is now commonplace to set off fireworks between your parked car and your neighbors parked car with only 14 feet between the two.

<quoted text> I agree they need to stop the stuff from coming in, it's not like we manufacturer aerials in Hawaii. Instead of having all those cops patrolling and responding to complaints. Why don't they just send a bunch of cops to the docks / post office with their K-9's and stop it there.
Because the docks are NOT the jurisdication of HPD, THAT'S WHY!!!!!
Look into the STATE, not the C&C!!!!!!!!!!

HPD does not do container searches at the docks at the point of entry. That is where the enforcement needs to be, at the docks!!! Once it reachesthe streets, IT IS TOO LATE!!!
How do you expect HPD to stop a hole in a dam, with his finger?!!
Come on people, get real. Quit your whining and moaning about HPD, cuz that is not the problem. Arrest people for using fireworks, but how many officers are there working during a shift per district? You arrest one and where does the officer go? Off the road and into the station to write reports. So get a dozen arrests and the WHOLE DISTRICT IS IN THE STATIONS WRITING REPORTS. Who is going to deal with the rest of the frivolous complaints that you morons are calling in?! Whose going to deal with all those drunk idiots? Ugh....

So true. Too many paper work, reports to be written. And like anyone else no one likes to write pages of reports. How many of us remembered how we hated to write report papers in school? If I remember right, not sure though, the beat officer now has to find his/her sergeant to sign the report once its written?

Yes, it's called "supervising." Don't understand why that surprises some people.

My friend had a good point when he said that in the past, the community was willing to put up with fireworks because it wasn't THAT crazy as it has been in recent years.

But 2009/2010 was the straw that broke the camel's back when these cro-magnon, half-evolved mokes decided that detonating miitary grade EXPLOSIVES that shook entire neighborhoods to their very core, was a fun thing to do.

That was when these empty-headed fools crossed the line!

Now-- it's go time!!!!!

Ban all fireworks!!!!!
