I am deeply disturbed and offended by "Bodies: The Exhibition" at Ala Moana Center, and in particular by the full-page graphic advertisement folded around the front page of the June 13 edition of the ...

Damn, Mr. Baker. That's a great letter. And true too.

"Watermelon people."

I usually refer to these folks as tree huggers, granola eaters, born-again Hippies, etc.

Great letter Mr. Anderson. I mean it. The people who want to see the bodies exhibit are the same people that rubberneck when there is a traffic accident. As a middle-schooler might say: eeeuyyeeww gross! And to pay for this kind of thing? Sorry, I don't get it.

Easy to stop handicap parking abusers. Just block them in, might have to take an illegal parking ticket, but they take the bigger hit and they learn!

Stop Rail Now: elitist Republican wingnuts and greedy special interests.

Petitions: bird cage liners, toilet paper, fish wrap.

No more shibai. Build the train already!

Perfect example of liberal hypocracy.
We cant drill bacause it won't produce oil for ten years but we have to build a train that we cant ride for ten years. Look out your agenda is showing.

"Watermelon People" along with you ultra rightest views. Do you wear your sheets at night?
However, your take on things does keep the letters section lively. It's better than reading all tree hugger mail. But you left out us Coral Huggers.

Steve,
I've seen some ridiculous letters, but yours takes the cake. I hate to tell you this, But Bush and his aministration is to blame for the high gas and oil prices!!!!!!! How is it that gasoline was only .99 per gallon in November of 2000 when Dubya was elected and in June of 2008 it is more than 4 times the price? Answer me that. And how is it that in the 8 years that Bill Clinton was President gasoline rose in cost by less than 50 cents per gallon. Must be those bad 'ole "watermelon people" just trying to make the president look bad.
p.s. Drilling in the ANWR won't solve the U.S.A. oil problems. There isn't enough oil there to begin with and it will take 10 years to build the drilling equipment.
I put this comment under your letter but this is also to the writer on ten years also for the rail--has anyone thought about flat out cutting back? How many cars are on the road with 1 DRIVER and no other person in the car? When I was growing up in Hawaii years ago--we all walked to school or caught the bus, mom and pop rode the bus to work--they all had cars but the cars were only used on week-ends and special times--that's how come we had all the little mom and pop stores in every little neighborhoods and chop suey places and hamburger joints run by the people in your neighborhood--you did "big" shopping on week-ends. Sports? You walked or caught the bus and then caught the bus home because mom and pop were working. We as Americans have gotten terribly use to having what we want when we want it and don't want to give up anything--after all we are entitled right? Wrong, we need to start thinking about down the road and our children and grandchildren--there are so many alternative energy methods but first we must be willing to quit being so selfish now and think of the future and save what limited resources we have..don't think the tourist problem will be helped with oil rigs off Waikik etc.

Hmm the anti letter cited three 'studies' all written by Dr. P. Consider the source. Yet when the SB has an article by an indepedendent firm saying Honolullu has the worst congestion, the anti's dont just attack the cource, they insist thet Mufi ordered the study.
More than halfway to the finish line, and the antis dont even have half the needed signatures. They have failed - badly!

Agree with Gary Anderson. Can't believe Ala Moana, SB, Midweek, etc. would associate themselves with this horrendous exhibition. Serve what purpose? I don't know. Gross and disgusting. I'd a hard time explaining this to my children. Don't want to go to Ala Moana these days at least. Low morality these people.

Mr. Anderson is correct in his assesment. News worthy reporting has become nothing more than a form of "shock and awe". These tactics try to capture your attention. Websites and in some instances your nightly newscast are famous for it. It has now worked its way down to the print outlets.

I don't get it either. I already have a low opinion of Ala Moana for turning the center into a tourist mecca that many locals can't afford to shop at. I miss the places I grew up with that got driven out by the high rent that the center now commands and now this. Patti's Chinese Kitchen, Lynn's Deli, Wong's Okazuya & Iida's. I now find myself going to Ala Moana Shopping Center maybe twice a year at Christmas time.

Remember those secret meetings VP Chaney held with the energy people (one with environmentalists, one with Green folk, over 100 with his energy pals)? Now look what has happened to gas and oil prices. Chaney and his cronies planned this behind closed doors to fatten their wallets. If this is not true, why won't they let us see the meeting minutes? They've been fighting that so we don't know the truth. I don't think Bush was in on it. He's an idiot and just does what Chaney et al tell him to do.

Do a google search on who, how, where and why these bodies are being harvested. The origination of 'resources' for these exhibitions is very questionable. Follow the $$$$$$$.......

It seems lately that people too stupid to know any better blame Bush for everything. Neighborhood built 20 feet below sea-level gets flooded - Bush's fault. Gas to expensive - Bush's fault. Bush's Fault - Bush's Fault - Bush's Fault. I am not even going to try to explain the effect of a world market on the price of oil, because I don't think you'd understand without hearing the words,'Bush's fault'. But I will say as an veteran texas oil-man ... we can start to pull oil out of ANWR in less then a year. You probably won't understand that either becasue you just don't want to hear it.

Great letter Mr. Anderson, however you left one thing out. Those bodies, as well as those in other fields of the "cadaver industry" are more often than not Chinese political prisoners or other "ndesirables" of Chinese society
