I have owned dobermans for nearly 20 years. I have been subject to abject hatred, judgement, and preconcieved notions about my social skills. However, Big red dog, I will tell you I draw the line at someone assuming anything about my sexual prowess or lack there of by the breed of dog I own. Frankly, I am quite fine sexually, mentally, and as a human being. I love this breed because they are bright, easiloy trained, exceptionally loyal, and keep me safe from idiots who would do me harm. I have been an ER nurse for 25 years, and have seen a child's face ripped off literally by the family lab, a hand mauled to the point of amputation by a poodle, and have seen an infant killed by a pomeranian. I have seen many pit bull bites, but most are mixed breeds, of medium size. I have seen police dogs bite thier trainers, badly. They were a breed similar to german shepards. I have nevr, as a nurse all over this country taken care of, heard of, or seen in the news a single doberman bite. The statistics are from 1979-1996 that show bites. Bigreddog, your ignorance is astounding to me. Like Nancy above, I can call my dog off, and she would die rather than harm me, but a gun will kill no matter if it is a valid threat or not. No one with half a brain would choose my house to break into, since she has a "reputation" simply because she is a doberman. She is sweet, loveable and kind. My best friend has her son, and she has two small babies. I bred for personality, not for show dogs. I will never be without a doberperson, and for people like Manny and bigreddog, you can kiss my sexually inept drug dealing, trailer trash, subhuman ass!!! If your assumption of all of those things about me is fair, I guess it is fair to assume you are unintelligent, beligerant, bigoted idiots incapable of seeing any one or anything for who they are.

oh, and while we are charging people more money for their choice in dogs, lets add eating at McDonalds, etc, smoking, dangerous driving, including tickets, and on and on. They are clearly creating extra risk I ahve to pay for with my insurance premiums.

How can you find out if a dangerous dog's owner is insured? You CAN'T, at least in Hawaii.

Another stupid comment from a know it all person that knows nothing but being a racist. What happened did you not see all of the adds from insurance companies on TV telling you that you can save big bucks on insuring your pets with GEICO? If I lived close to you I would get my pet LIFE INSURANCE. Seeing as how you like to murder HELPLESS animals that stray into your yard.

I've seen videos on youtube showing many of the "dangerous breeds" of dogs being used as therapy dogs in hospitals. Guard dogs are bred to be smart so they can also be trained to be gentle. The problem is all these losers who get rough with dogs because they want to be like Bill Sikes. Blame them.

You're full of it. First, if I'm wrong perhaps you can tell us all how you find out if a dog owner has insurance covering dog attack. An advertisement for Chevrolet doesn't automatically mean we all drive Chevrolets, idiot. Talk about a STOOPID comment.

You are so right.
They should hold bad owners resposible for their dogs bad behavior.
It is not the dog's fault.
Dobermans, Rottweilers and Pit Bulls are all wonderful dogs when they are cared for, disciplined and trained.
I have to agree. I think some people get these dogs believing they have what it takes to work with them and treat them well, but to understand a creature and bring out the best in it often turns out to be a different situation once they have them. My friend owns a pitbull and he is absolutely wonderful with her. My neighbors on the other hand... if they had the same dog, the wouldn't give it the same care, treatment and attention.

I live next to one of those chain-crazy 80 lb. Pit Bulls. Outside with no shelter, on a six-foot chain that reaches right to the edge of the sidewalk. Yesterday he was fine, today he was straining at his chain to get at a seventy year old guy witing at the bus stop. TODAY that cheap-ass collar on the dog didn't break, but who knows what is gonna happen tomorrow? The dog has attacked someone once before. The owner has three more of these dogs stuffed into a six-by-six foot kennel. What is the three-hundred-fifty pound owner afraid of, a tourist?

Ok..for those of you uneducated trash talkers out there let me just give you a little lesson on the Doberman. First of all, all I have read is "when I was growing up dobermans blah blah blah!" Well in the 1970s the breed was being inbred and bred specifically to fight. So don't base your opinions of this breed on when this breed was at its absolute worst! SECOND..any dog, any breed, any size can bite in a split second. I live in a neighborhood with SEVEN Dobermans..yes SEVEN including my own who is one. NOT A SINGLE one of these dogs have ever bitten a child. In fact..these little chihuahuas that everyone thinks are sooo cute and sweet have bitten children in the neighborhood numerous times!! A lab got loose a few weeks ago and chased down a little boy on a bike, causing him to fall off his bike and get all bruised up. Just yesterday someones put got out and almost bit my daughter when she tried to pet him. My dog got out once a few months ago and went straight to the park where I found him going down the slide with the kids! And that's the Gods honest truth! So before you trash the breed..look into the FACTS. Ask owners GOOD owners about this breed. They are loyal, loving, silly, extremely affectionate and GREAT with kids when properly trained! Punish the deed not the breed!!!

My Doberman is VERY protective of his property. And yet he is VERY sociable. But I have noticed that he likes rough play. And besides that he has some herding instinct .... people can misinterpret this for an unpredictable attack.

This article reminds of those by owners of pit bulls. "Oh,they,re just sweethearts, wouldn't hurt anyone" Then some child is mauled.
ummmmm. you do know that only 15 people have been attacked by dobes in the last 20 years, right? that's less the Labradors and only a few more then olden retrievers. Please check facts before posting your illogical comments.
