I believe the Louders and Lowders are the same family. Somewhere along the line the spelling was changed. My Louder ancestry has been traced back to 16th century Germany.

Heinz Wecken Louder came to America at age 20 as a Hessian soldier hired by the British to fight the Americans during the Revolutionary War. He was in the battles of Charleston and Camden, SC where he was wounded and captured. He was released near Concord NC but did not go back. He became friendly with a German family there and hid in their corncrib. The family was Lutheran. Heinz was Catholic but soon converted and married the 16 year old daughter of the family that befriended him. In 1804 Heinz operated a blacksmith shop in Concord. In 1809 the family moved to Charlotte. He and Hennie had 6 children. Their 3rd child, the second son is my direct relative. His name was Henry Wilkes Louder. He was a corporal in the 4th NC Calvary and fought the entire war without being wounded or captured. He refused to surrender and walked home from Virginia carrying his rifle and sword (both still in the family). He married after the war. He owned a large farm in Rowan County, NC. He and his wife Betsy who was 20 years younger than he was raised 5 boys. They youngest Darril Sheetz Louder is my direct relative. Darril went to UNC where he studied medicine. He was a doctor is Winston Salem, Raleigh and Durham as a young man. His first wife died in childbirth. Despondant, Dr. Louder left his practice in Durham and moved in with his aging parents near Salisbury, NC. Two years later he married the daughter of the Lutheran minister of his parents church. She was just 16 years old. Darril was 39. The couple moved to Rutherford where Dr. Louder practiced medicine. They had 2 girls and 5 boys. My grandfather Albert Clontz Louder was their oldest son.
