Can anyone tell me anything about the Oliver House on 1st? I know it has been for sale for a long time just wondering why? Does it need alot of work or is it haunted? Thought someone who has lived in corning for several years might know something.
Thanks

I think that someone is living in it at this time. I have not seen a for sale sign in the yard for a while. I am unsure if the tenant is renting or owns it. The house does need alot of work. That house has alot of potential to be beautiful and would be nice if someone would fix it up. I am assuming that the work is what keeps people away from it.

I've heard that the heating and cooling cost is expensive. Also it is rite on the tracks,if a person isn't use to a train rite outside their window, that may be a down fall.

I have never heard about it being apartments. I do know that years back it was a day care and after they left I toured it and there were small sinks and toilets in it for the kids. It needed work then and there's no telling what it needs now. If you drive by there it doesn't look like that anyone has done anything to it besides live in it.

A couple from Paragould did all the repairs and it was beautiful! But, several renters since then have destroyed their hard work. It now needs work again! One of the former renters said his electric bill was outrageous in it as well.

True, electric in the county is high, Paragould is a better place to live as far as cheaper bills over all. sounds like that might be a money pit.

The electric bill difference is not even close to the difference in house payment or even rent. Things more than balance out when you add all.

What you siad is not true. I have family who live in Paragould and the Electric, cable, internet, water, and trash are all on one bill.
I live in Clay county and just my Electric bill is more than the one bill you get in Paragould for all 5 things.
If you look on carmls.com you can see the homes are around the same price in Paragould as anywhere in NorthEast Arkansas.

Yea but for what you pay in gas to commute, you could make a hell of a house pmt elsewhere and save on gas & utilities. We moved from Corning last year and saved tons of money on not commuting at all. Our house pmt is a little more but, the difference in gas & utilities more than makes up for it, not to mention the higher wages. I make 8 more dollars an hr that I did in Corning, that's 1200 more dollars a mth! That's why I foresee Corning turning into Success or Knobel in the near future. We got out while we could still sell our house.

Homes in Jonesboro and then Paragould are easily much more expensive as a whole average per square foot that anywhere else in Northeast Arkansas. If you can make up the difference in other expenses or higher wages then that makes sense too. There are parts of Jonesboro now that look and act like Little Rock or Memphis. It is not a racial issue with me. It is a safety issue. Drugs are everywhere but the violence and gangs are not yet.

The Oliver House is for sale. There has been a for sale sign in the front yard since last fall. Jack Miligan had it listed until January. Now Century 21 Indian Realty in Jonesboro has it listed. Darrel Cook is the agent give him a call. And no there is not little toilets and sinks in this house they are all adult size. The interior needs painted and the floors need to be leveled. After all this is an old house. It has 2 separt heating and air units, one for upstairsa nd one for downstairs. It is realtivly clean. It has been recently sprayed. So if your interested in it give Mr. Cook a call. It is listed for $40,000.00. It is one of 2 houses listed on the National Historical Homes in Arkansas.

I called century 21 Indian Realty yesterday . They were NO help at all. The only thing they did was read off the carmls.com web-site what I was sitting there looking at myself. I asked how many SQ.FT, and they told me to check with the court house...Wow they really want to sell the place.I asked how much land it was on and again they didn't know. They never asked me if I wanted to look at the home , never asked my name , just got the feeling they wanted me off the phone. I told my husband about it because it kind of shocked me they acted like that, telling me go to the court house if I wanted more information. I would be very upset if the home belonged to me and I had it listed with them. I guess they are more interested in selling homes in Jonesboro area and didn't wanted to mess with someone wanting to look at a home in Corning. If anyone knows the owner please pass this message on...they should know how Century 21 is doing on their behalf.

It is a nice house, to close to the tracks.
The owners need to list it with someone else if thats how they are treating customers at Century 21. I hope they see this post.

Well when someone calls Century 21 and ask dumb questions abot a house, you tend to get dumb answers. The person who called Century 21 was not really interested in buying the house, just more so being nosey. And everyone at Century 21 are friendly people, eager to talk to anyone with legit questions. I personally know who you are and what you said when you called the office. If your interested in viewing the house for reasons of purchasing the house, then give ua a call and we will be more than glad to set you up to view it. But no need to come on a public site and trash a very reputible real estate company.

Your saying the questions I asked were Dumb? I have never heard of a Real Estate company telling a customer they are asking dumb questions. You also have said this about me "not really interested in buying the house, just more so being nosey"
You do not know me and most certainly do not know anything about where I'm looking to buy a home, I know this because you didn't ask me any question or take any time with me. The only one to say anything bad about someone is you talking bad about me, I only stated the truth. and I did not do it in a mean way at all. If you don't want people to say your not being helpful then when someone calls you need to take time to answer their question, not tell them to check with the court house..."o that's right you think me asking how many square foot the home has is a dumb question, or was it when I asked if the house was on a solid foundation, for bank loan reasons. I hope the above post from "Oliver House" is not really the person from Century 21. I can't believe you would be so rude, and call a customer names, you can't get more unprofessional. I hope the owner of the home knows how Century 21 is acting on their behalf!

Drugs are everywhere now including Corning, jobs, however, are not everywhere, including Corning, that's the problem........

If Century 21 did with that post to you they need to work on their people skills!
