[New to Mathis]

Does anyone see the same issues that I do with our city? I've tried to become involved with "business" here in Mathis, but I keep hitting roadblocks. I attempted to join the local Chamber of Commerce only to find out that it was "disbanded" by the city council for disagreements between the members.

I'm really trying to make a go of things here, but I keep getting headbutted by the city politik.

The fact that it was disbanded is probably a good thing for the town. I know Smolik was buying the place back from Charlie last I heard and was reopening Smoliks after Charlie ran it into the ground.

Smolik's has reopened and the Smolik's now own it again. I worked for the previous owner and I will admit it went down hill. Never any ac in the back for the cooks. There were a few of us that were affected by the heat. Who wants a cook sweating over their food? I surely dont!
I was hired to help change the menu around and add more food besdies bbq. I never could get ahold of the old owner and after watching what was going on, or what wasnt going on, I gave up after a couple of months.
I am so glad the Smolik's are back in business and the food is just excellent!

I actually spoke with someone yesterday and apparently the nursing home is trying to put together some business networking events. Hopefully that will help out the town. I just see the business here going south quickly. Hopefully we can all get along long enough to help each other.

And for the record, I agree with you about Smoliks. I just love the BBQ!

"New to Mathis" what are your ideas? In fact the City is trying to get the E.D.C. up and going if you go to city hall and fill out a nomination form to become a member...the council will set a meeting to vote on your nomination but that organization is the organization you want to be in if you are interested in "Business" here in Mathis.

Hello, I was browsing around looking for the Mathis news and came across this page. I wanted to let everyone know that I am starting up Big Brothers Big Sisters in San Patricio County. I currently have 2 volunteers and 1 child that joined the program from Mathis. I am needing help spreading the word that we are now available in Mathis and any town in San Patricio county.
