"The reason for the merger is to control costs for buildings, clergy and staff, said Dick Healy of Boxford, chairman of the 10-member Inter-Parish Council, the new governing body of the merged church. It's less expensive to operate one church instead of two.
"Both churches are more than 100 years old; both have aging structures; and while Calvary's building and membership is slightly larger than St. Paul's, both have membership in the low hundreds.
"Both churches have launched initiatives with an eye toward growing membership. Calvary started its Perfect Paws Pet Ministry ..."
Is Calvary going to count its congregation's pets as active members in TEC?
