I do not believe the selected Mr. M., they were left with him as all but one of the others had taken other offers. Let's keep our fingers crossed here.

Why don't some of the complainers run for these positions?

Those that can do, those that can't complain.

Fools rush in!

Points to ponder:
1. Another GDRSD SC rushed into building a new high school and look how poorly that turned out. 2. Five years ago, another SC hired Genovese who wasn't a first choice and look at the results.

This was my concern when the SC announced last week that it wasn't doing site visits.

The article quotes several of the SC members as saying that he wasn't their first choice. One even says that he thinks Mr. M. "has ENOUGH skills to lead the district." The district needs more than enough skills to raise it back to the level of excellence it was at 5-6 years ago!
The man may have budget skills but the district desperately needs someone who has educational leadership skills. A top-notch business manager will be the one to advise the Supt. on budget matters.

Don't you wonder, Groton 1, why the others took other offers?

3.Genovese hired Cohen and look at that disaster. 4. Tax and fees continue to rise while services decline.

Mrs. Erickson had the right idea. If they weren't comfortable with their remaining two applicants, they should have reopened the search and made plans to hire an interim Supt., if necessary.

Mastrocola has jumped around from one school system to another, like 6 or 7, in 24 years. If you do the math, he'll probably jump to a more glamorous Supt. position in 3-4 years. GDRSD seems to be just a stepping stone. I hope not. I hope that he works out well for the district. It needs stability and to have its good reputation restored.

From reading these threads, I think that some of the complainers may have served in these positions. They just weren't able to do.

What positions do you suppose they are talking about? Fetal position or perhaps the missionary or prone position? Actually, anyone that "may have served in these positions" is either comfortably retired or is riding around in a Brink's truck.

"He's been doing STUFF..." REALLY!?! He's been doing STUFF! THAT'S the reason he's being hired to run a multimillion dollar operation, because his name shows up in the minutes for doing STUFF!?! Wow! These were the last two nags left in the corral, so we roped the one who's been doin' STUFF. Bet there will be the same STUFF going on in GD that's been going on under the previous genius. Once again the GD schoo committee shows it's STUFF.

So you are saying the complainers already served and are now well off?
Seems like you missed the mark on that one.

Anyway, why don't all the school committee members resign and we can replace them with qualified people and finally get this mess corrected.

How many SC members will resign, raise your hand...

John Black asked,"So you are saying the complainers already served and are now well off?"
Sorry, frustrating day at the office and hit with too many cream pies. Reference was to superintendents playing musical chairs, making mega-bucks while degrading existing systems.
Sure, I know any new hire is a gamble to some extent for the employer and employee. However, given the current disaster (with someone who now gets to double dip for his handywork) you'd think the SC wouldn't be in such a rush to grab one of the last two tomatoes from the bottom of the basket without carefully looking them over. Another poster has suggested we now have to hold our breath. Doesn't our students and district deserve better?

Maybe the School Comm. will make him an offer that he CAN refuse! He'll choose to wherever else he applied. Then GD's SC can reopen the search.

We've got to let them know how we feel. Call them, email them, even blackmail them with a YES on an override! Whatever it takes to wake them up.

Why is GDRSD always settling for the table scraps?

contract negotiations.

Come to the trough Mr. Mastrocola!

Wednesday, February 24th:

Of course he accepted...he is coming from PEOBODY. Please! The pay scale was $150 -$165...anyone know what they offered him? Very skeptical with the decision. He said he is going to relocate to the area; that's nice. I bet there will be plenty of people selling now.

That's why the school committee makes the big bucks! You have to understand that if they waited another day or two the pool could have been down to just one person or maybe none?. It was a tough choice. It's like you're at the track. "They're off" and one or two nags come stumbling out of the gate while the other eight are half way around the track. You have to think fast. Wouldn't you want to grab one while you can?
