I am just an ordinary man. I am a father, a husband, and a son. More importantly, I am my fathers health care agent. I have been doing this selfless task for over 2 years now.
I am writing this post in the hope that evryone who reads this would join my new movement called "Let's Save Grandpa". At this moment, it is in its infancy, but it is slowly growing.
I started the thinking about starting this campaign and movement after a day when I brought my elderly father with us to a local museum. He does not get out that much, except to doctors appointments. What I saw that day was exactly how rude and disrespectful people can be towards our elderly. I was waiting in front of the museum to pick up my father because he has a hard time walking. His nurse brought him out in the rented wheel chair. It is a major effort just to get him out of the house, and at the end of a fun, yet long day for him, he is very tired. It took 3 of us (myself, my wife, and the nurse) just to get him into the van to get him home. While we were doing this, a very mean and un-compassionate women came running out of her art gallery (Marine Arts Gallery, in Salem , MA) and began yelling at us to move the van because we were blocking the spot where her deliveries are made, and the Fed-ex truck was waiting to drop off packages (By the way, the Fed-Ex driver could have just as easily made the deliveries where he was). We tried to ignore her, but we have feelings too. My wife went over to politely say we would only be a minute, and to remind her that the small road between the museum and her gallery was not hers. The museum had stated we could go there to get my father. The women began to use unkind language towards my wife, and my wife, being a passionate and caring person, got fired up and snapped back. To make matters worse, the Fed-Ex driver nearly hit us as he sped by after dropping off the packages.
This was what ignited the fire inside me to think something needs to be done. People need to change.
This added the proverbial fuel to the fire and drove me to try and do something. I have seen that many people just do not have respect for their fellow man anymore. And it is even worse for the elderly.
I hope this helps explain why I went down this path to start the campaign. Lately, I have felt that I need to make a difference. But I feel the biggest difference is to make a change in our hearts and learn to really respect and love our Elderly.
A new voice is needed for our Elderly...a grass roots effort to show people that we need to respect our Elderly. I dont know why, but I am being driven to be that voice.
My campaign is in its infancy and I am trying to make it grow. I have done some research and there are many other similar campaigns, movements, and organizations, but from what I have seen, these are targeted at Elder Abuse. My Movement is also looking at this issue, but in a different light. Most of these organizations don't realize that to stop Elder Abuse and Agism, people need to learn to respect their elderly. And to do that, people need to respect themselves first. I want my campaign to focus on this as a means to stop the abuse, the Prejudice, and the disrespect of our elderly. But, I am finding that it is very difficult to sway people's thinking. And Having a hard time getting the message out.
I have added the movement to Causes and on Facebook. I am providing the links below in case you are interested.

All I ask is that you join my cause in taking a stand not just against elderly abuse, but against disrespecting our elderly. We are the future, and we will be judged by how we treat our elderly. We should treat them like people. We are the example for our children, lets be a good example and lets save Grandpa (and Grandma too).
I am sorry for the post, as you can tell, I am very passionate about this.
