I feel so bad for the mom. Her son obviously must have a bad drug problem. She did the right thing & maybe now he can get the help he so desperately needs. Sad.

The mother did the right thing. Glad to read this instead of parents claiming their punk kids didn't do it.

I commend her too for doing what must have broken her heart to do.

as for hammerhead. Not sure what you are talking about here.
free health care? The kids in Cambridge Jail. As far as healthcare goes in that place...if it can't be healed with tylenol or hydrocortisone cream you're in trouble.

free food stamps? Nope. Its state food and lots of white bread unless somebody puts money in his canteen.

free housing? I guess, but the accomodations aren't exactly ideal.

free legal advice? Only the same that is available to you under the US Constitution. If you have a problem with that, I hear land is cheap in China maybe you should relocate?

free stay at detox? Well this kid will be kicking on the floor. He probably won't even have a cell or a bed for the first week since its so crowded in that building. No meds, no bed. He'll certainly remember it. But if you are complaining about costs then you should know that treatment is FAR less expensive than incarceration with FAR better results.

Other than that your post was on the money :)

There's a lot to like about Lowell -- especially if you're a junkie looking to score some quick cash.

That ginger needs to get his problem under control - he needs to find his soul. Although it's widely know that ginger's do not have souls.

Lawman's partially right. I don't hide the fact that I've been locked up. But I certainly don't consider myself a victim. Everything that happened before I got sober was my own doing and I have to live with it.

Oh and btw, there's no gym at Cambridge. It's now called the annex and has about 70 beds in it.

I was just trying to let people know its not the vacation the uninformed want you to believe it is.

How nice that some of you have such perfect lives that you nor anyone you love has to face an addiction. Just because he has an addiction, doesn't make him a monster that has no chance of rehabilitation. If my tax dollars go towards taking care of this kid and in 10 years, he's able to redeem himself and contribute to society, I'm ok with that. What I'm not ok with is people constantly and purposely milking ths sytem for benefits they don't deserve because they are too lazy and/or ignorant to work. I hope this kid gets the help and support he needs. It's a sad story for his mom and anyone else who cares about him.

wherever he's from, he's a drain on society. he and his kind lower property values, threaten business owners and are a burden on the courts adn prisons. again, had he been shot, it would have been no big loss.

If you read the eagle tribune story you will find his partner is Justin Ryan from Tewksbury. There's the connection between towns.

Wow, how courageous she is. He's likely addicted to something. Hopefully some time in the tank will cure the addiction, although I'm not so naive to think so. Jail can embed him deeper into that society if he's not careful. But Mom turning him in might be a sobering enough message that he needs to change. In the end, it's up to him.
