First of all learn how to spell accident... And second stabbing someone in the back is never an accident. Billy was a good person and a loving father and Steve who you say would never kill someone..DID. He took a 12 year old little girls father from her and I hope he spends his whole life in prison thinking about it, just like we will all spend our whole life missing him. Steve is a loser and deserves to be in prison caged up like an animal.

If Billy hadn't tried to rob Steve maybe this would have never happened.

Well that is Steve's story and coming from someone who could take someones life that doesn't mean much. I am not sure what relationship you are to him but maybe if Billy had killed him you would feel different, and I am not sure if you knew Billy but he was loved by many people. So in my eyes you can never justify stabbing someone in the back.

WELL I, AH, I SAY, THE WAY THE WORLD IS TODAY, WE ALL BETTER GET THOSE HANDBASKETS READY. BECAUSE THE WAY THINGS ARE, WERE ALL GOING TO NEED THEM. WHY , YOU ASK, BECAUSE THE WORLD IS GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET , THATS WHY. THINGS SEEM TO BE WORSE THAN EVER, AND I FEAR THEY WILL CONTINUE TO GET MUCH WORSE BEFORE THEY GET BETTER.THIS COUNTRY IS IN A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS. LETS PRAY FOR GOODNESS. WE NEED IT. SORRY FOR THE LOSS OF SUCH A YOUNG LIFE. VERY SAD INDEED, AND VERY UNNECESSARY. PEACE BE WITH THOSE AFFECTED BY THIS TRAGEDY.

Thank you for your sympathy. He was very young and he had a daughter; she is twelve. She loved him very much and misses him everyday. I agree with you, it was very unnecessary. I just pray the legal system doesn't fail and Steve pays for what he did to all of our lives.

I was very close to him for 14 years and he was a good person. And he always treated people the same way they treated him. He loved his family and we loved him.

Well, Steve is out and free to go. What does that prove? If they thought Steve was a danger to society, he'd be locked up. Billy knew what he was doing, beating Steve for whatever reason. Whos the idiot? On the other hand, I feel for Billy's daughter because no kid deserves to grow up without a father but the way Billy was headed, he would've been put in jail anyway. And another point... what if it was a woman beating her attacker in self-defense and killed him accidentally. Would she be a murderer or would it be self-defense? Well, Kim, maybe we should let an attacker beat you and then let him freely walk the streets so he can beat someone else. Absolutely ridiculous! What has this world come to!

Ok... Am I the only one that read the part about the drugs? Doesn't everyone know by now that crackheads and drugdealers are losers. C'mon do you really expect better from these type of people??

Well to respond to Steve is Free. First of all about letting someone beat me and walk the streets - that wouldn't happen because I wouldn't be out buying drugs armed with a knife. So maybe when you make your example you should really think about it a little better. And maybe you should know a little more about what really happened before you speak... Steve was no better than Bill. And by the way the altercation was over when Steve stabbed him in the back directly behind his heart. But like you said STEVE IS Free, and if you really want to think about it Billy is free too, free from the shit hole that we all live in, but his daughter on the other hand is left behind to deal with all the idiots that never knew her father the way she did and all the stupid comments that they make. But I will teach her that we are surrounded by people who have nothing better to do but hurt others. One last thing I hope you or someone you love very much someday gets wrapped up in drugs and doesn't see a way out and has the pleasure of running into a nice guy like STEVE BARRETO.

I am glad someone else could see through that story. His whole statement was bull shit and the witnesses that gave statements were his friends (from his tattoo shop) but claimed they didn't know him, they just saw some poor guy who got beat up and needed help... YA RIGHT! This wasn't his first drug offense and I am sure it won't be his last. Maybe next time he does this it will be to a son of a dr or lawyer or someone important and he will have to take responsibilty for being such a piece of garbage. I wonder if he even feels bad for the little girl he left without a father????

I know you are an Atty but are you a father? Did you ever hear the cry of a 12 year old you had to tell her father was murdered? Or the cry of child who had to bury her father that she lost to the streets of drugs and violence? We until you do you will not ever understand the sadness that I feel. If Bill was here he would have to pay for his part in this but I doubt he would have been sentenced to death. Once again he was stabbed in the BACK AFTER FIGHT WAS OVER. Steve Barreto had a chance to walk away but he decided to be the judge and jury for whatever crime he thought was commited against him.

Well all I can say 5 years later, is that shit happens, someone was going g to die that night. It's sad what happened but we can't change the past. And who ever wrote that his "tattoo shop friends" were the only witnesses is dumb. One guy yes said he picked him up and he was beatin up. But there was also the main witness a you d girl who was there and told the same exact story that Steve told. what do you all have to say about that huh? If he was living why would some random girl he never saw in his life have the same story as him? Anyway, if your wondering who I am, I am his wife. And when I met Steve this was the first thing he told me and even showed me with tears in his eyes how it all happened. To this day he does not like talking about, but it happened and it's long over with. I felt the need to write because "Kim" is just making everyone see her point. I KNOW STEVE BARRETO and he would never ever take the life of anyone for no reason. And Kim when you tell his now 17 year old daughter about him, make sure you include ALL the facts, good, bad and ugly. Rip Billy, gone but never forgotten,

To No Name... My daughter is now 19 and I have told her the good, bad and the ugly. It has been 6 years since Billy's death. The days have not got any easier. So as for you saying you know Steve Barreto well good for you. I have gone thru that case with a fine tooth come so I could hopefully find something that will give me peace but unfortunately I have all the facts - unlike you who was told the story by one person. No matter which way you cut it - Steve had a chance to walk away but chose to put a knife thru Billy's back and take his life. Although I will not sit here and claim that Billy did not have a drug addiction because he did which is most of the reason we were no longer together. I will tell you he was a great person and he was loved by many people. He was a friend of Steve's years prior to this so for Steve to tell you any different it is a lie. The lie about Steve hearing the knife - That was Steve's knife. Billy always said only cowards carry a weapon. And so one last thing Kim - when your son grows up make sure you tell him the good, the bad and the ugly about his father also and from the looks of it he has not changed his ways and still battles his drug addiction. I have accepted the truth maybe you should also.
