My thoughts and prayers go out to this family. I would have to say I was down there on vaction with my child and it was the worst thing ever. You hear about stuff like this but when you see it first hand it really bothers you. I could never know what this family must be feeling, but I hope god comforts them in this awful situation.

We were there too and feel for the boy and his family. Does anyone know if he was ever found? We are back in Pittsburgh now and have no access to Myrtle Beach news. Thanks.

As of this afternoon the boy had not been found. Authorities said they will stay at the Surfmaster until this child surfaces. The boys family and the baseball league he was here with won't return to Maryland until he's recovered.
I saw on the news last night that the police have no reason to doubt the child's body will come ashore, it's been since 1962 that someone drowned in the ocean and was never found.
My prayers are with this family.

first i would like to say thank you for all of your kind words, thoughts and prayers. my stepdad is Lonnie's grandfather, which would make Lonnie my step nephew. unfortunately, he has not surfaced yet. we are still hopeful that he will be found, but with each passing day, it gets harder and harder to hang on to that hope. it has been 26 days today. please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. thank you.

I played in the same baseball tournament as the boy who died who played for one of the maryland teams. He was the same age as me (13). My whole team sent money to the parents of the boy who drowned because they were still searching for him. I was even at the beach with my team when he died and we still had i think two more days of the tournament left. 8 of the players went out and only 7 came back. I also vs. him the night before at his last game he'll ever play.

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you got the money i sent you.

Someone said there has not been a case of never finding a person since the 60s. Is this one for the history books or does anyone have information to provide closure for us that feel for the family because of our presence at the beach during this tragedy? So sorry for the family members and that young man.

As we return to GC again this year I remember that day very well when we were on the beach when the drowning occurred. Was that boy ever found? That was just terrible to see.

I just came across this post...trying to research about my brothers drowning in 1962 in Myrtle Beach with his graduation class...John Earl Shrake was his name and he is GREATLY MISSED to this day...my feeling's for this child in this situation brought back memories of discussions with my mother on why he was never found...I wish with ALL OF MY HEART this family someday will have some answers!!! As I wish some day to have some answers myself. With love and compassion JD Shrake
