Three Dioceses Question Title IV Changes

Oct 22, 2010 | Posted by: Joe DeCaro | Full story: www.livingchurch.org

With varying degrees of force, three dioceses - Dallas, South Carolina and Western Louisiana - have expressed their concerns about revisions to Title IV of the Episcopal Church's canons. All three dioceses express concerns about the revised Title IV granting greater authority to the church’s presiding bishop over other bishops, and to diocesan bishops over their clergy, amid accusations of misconduct ...

from livingchurch:

"'The more we looked at Title IV, we began to realize what we have here is a constitutional crisis,' said the Rt. Rev. James M. Stanton, Bishop of Dallas.'Much of our concern has to do with due process for clergy and protections for clergy.'

"Bishop Stanton said his vocation has been guided by a principle he heard in a seminary course with the Rev. Dr. Massey H. Shepherd:'Canon law exists to protect the people from their clergy and the clergy from their bishops.'"

Especially their Presiding Bishop.

Are you a member of TEC, Joe? Cause you seem to be filled with so much hate for it. Always arguing against it, making snide one-liners about it, etc.

Joe is a member of the Church of Rome and is virulent in his hatred of TEC.

The changes are under review and have been ordered by the single governing authority in TEC. It has been ordered by the General Convention and the changes will undergo the usual procedures for making a change in Canon Law. We rule out church in the most open and democratic fashion.

Like a law passed by Congress and signed by the President becomes Federal Law. A Canon Law passed by two consecutive General Conventions becomes the Canon Law of TEC.

Thanks be to God!

Topix doesn't care, so why should you?

But in any case, the story headline states that changes to Title IV -- granting more authority to the PB -- is causing concern among many TEC members.

Are you one of them?

Isn't it wonderful that a woman with a Doctor's degree came into our church and was able to become our chosen leader. She along with President Bonnie Anderson the second most powerful officer in TEC!

WOW - TEC women - WOW!

Two living examples that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

BTW, as a former Roman Catholic, PB Schori may yet be Pope: not of my church, but of yours!!!

Ah, okay. See, that helps. I was wondering how someone in the TEC could be so hateful, but now that I know he's a Roman, it makes sense.

I don't know why there is the panty knotting over a church not your own, but to each their own.

Believers must stand against apostasy and heresy no matter if it is in their particular denomination or not.
