I'm married with 3 kids wanting to move to SC. We've always loved Myrtle Beach and we hope to move to Aynor for the great schools and country setting. We're from upstate NY. It's a very rural area but I worry that people hear NY and automatically assume stuck-up city people. Is it true that people will treat us different, not hire us and my kids will have a hard time making friends in school or is that just the way a few people are, and most others are accepting no matter what state you're from as long as you're good people? Also is there towns we should avoid looking into? We definitely don't want to move anywhere too urban.
Thank you for any insight you can share.
i came from NY city 13 year ago and wouldn't go back. the people don't care where you come from for the most part, still some fighting the civil war. my son was in high school and went back for his last year of school cause me was bored. school way behind and he did differnt things then kids here.

You're better off to move to Hartsville than the Grand Strand. One hour from the beach, no hurricane evacuations, maybe two hours from Charlotte. Yeah, some of them are still fighting the Civil War but if you ask them why they are fighting they have no answer.

Why would anyone even consider moving here? The locals that are already here, can't get jobs. At least not any that you can live on. Prepare to work 2 jobs to barely keep your head above water.Hotels, convenience stores, restaurants and landscaping businesses are mostly owned by either foreigners or Northerners who expect you to kill yourself for minimum wage! All the Wings stores are owned by Muslims out of New york, Look it up! Kangaroos, Muslims from Charlotte! Landscaping, New york jews.Hotels, India and Pakistan! THIS is what our area has become!

We ended up moving to the charleston area instead. My husband got an excellent job with great pay and we found a really nice home to rent. The kids love their new schools and we're thrilled we finally moved to South Carolina. We came down for 5 days, my husband went to his job interview and got hired on the spot, found our place to stay, then came back to get all of our stuff and here we are. Thanks for everyone's help!
