I grew up in WW and went through school there- grade school, middle school, and high school. My father knew Tom Horton as well- and it is a shock that he would have taken his own life. I cannot speculate on this issue, but I wanted to say this: you never really know people. My grandma told me this all the time when I was growing up, but I have to admit, even now I take things for granted like knowing a teacher from school and such. In a small town, you think that you actually know people better than in a big city and then something like this happens, and it takes that security away that you though was there.

OK so the family didn't believe the police, OSBI, coroner, OR the Grand Jury?!? If the Horton family still thinks this is a homicide then let them use their money to pay for and further investigation with the "evidence" to be turned over to the DA's office. As a taxpayer in Garvin County, I say ENOUGH ALREADY! This has gone on long enough and there is no need to continue wasting taxpayer money because the family can't cope with the fact that Mr. Horton committed the most selfish act anyone can...suicide.

Now don't get me wrong, I know the Horton family needs to grieve, they need to be heard, their concerns need to be answered, but they already have been heard & answered, they just don't like what they have been told.

Why doesn't the family get with a grief councilor and let him help them work through the pain.

At 4:00pm, Horton family friend and neighbor (and part time housekeeper
and aide) Sherrie Dixon drove by on Schmid Street to bring Tom food for supper.
She noticed that his white Dodge pickup was not at the residence although there
was a dark car in the drive. At 4:30 pm, she drove back by and noticed Tom’s
vehicle still was not home and the car still in the drive. She found this peculiar.
Tom Horton was found dead seated in a chair in the southeast parlor of
the Schmid residence by his sister-in-law, Sallie Bostick at approximately 4:35
pm that afternoon. Tom was shot in the chest with a shotgun that was still lying
on his person. The shotgun was a personally owned conversation piece bought
at an auction by Tom that hung unloaded on a peg adjacent to the doorway for
many years. None of the family or Tom himself was ever known to have fired it or
otherwise known if it was in normal working order.
Sallie immediately left the residence in a panicked state and drove to the
Wynnewood police department to summon officers to the scene. Wynnewood
police officers Paul Thacker and Shane Rich immediately responded back to the
residence where they cleared the house. Upon entering the center of the home,
Officer Shane Rich saw Jon Horton exit the bathroom adjacent to and with a
common door to the room where the deceased was. Shane Rich followed for a
few steps and then doubled back around the center of the house as it appeared
Jon was trying to elude them. Shane Rich then saw that Jon Horton had
proceeded through the kitchen and made another left in the living room. Jon
Horton proceeded up the stairs and then appeared to changed direction and act
as though he were coming down the steps for the first time when the two officers
halted him at gun point while he was at the midpoint of the stairwell. Per officer
Rich, Jon made the exclamation then that “No one is shot here.”

December 10, 2008, approx 1:30PM, Tom Horton receives an urgent call while at work in Paul’s Valley. The female caller (on her cell phone) states that Tom's son is "threatening suicide." Tom immediately goes to his employer and asks if he can leave work to go to Wynnewood right away. Tom Horton is discovered dead three hours later.

I am a hard working taxpayer as well. It is not a matter of grieving but it is a matter of exposing the corruption that runs so deep ranging from the Wynnewood police department, Garvin County sheriff's office and the Garvin county judicial system. My tax money pays their salaries!!! The horror is that an upstanding citizen, who was anything but selfish can be murdered in his own home and the guilty one doesn't have to serve the time for the crime, especially when we know who pulled the trigger!

Evidence had been destroyed at the crime scene due to"Barney Fife" being on duty, the OSBI had nothing to work with!! You would have to be living in a hole if you haven't heard of the corruption at the Medical Examiner's office. The Horton family has spent their OWN money in the search for justice..

Crocodile tears, being cut off financially from the free ride someone had been getting sounds like a pretty good motive to me!! Its not about someone needing grief counseling, its about justice needing to be served!!

If you want to committ a crime Garvin County is the perfect place!

Watcher111, you should get your facts straight before you comment. What do you think those poor people were doing in the sun for six weeks and do you not think that it didn't cost them money? I've been following this story since March of 2009. I personally saw Garvin County Deputies harrassing petitioners with my own eyes so it's not a stretch to believe that justice wasn't served. Declining to investigate the deaths of four human beings for a drug case? Come on. I hope these folks tell the whole spiel to the national news or the FBI or both.

Hilarious. I was parked at the PV library and watched long hair being interviewed yesterday. They pretty much cut off most of what he said but I got the gist of it. Something about how can blood from a shotgun wound get in seven rooms on two floors around corners and up stairs and in a bloody trash bag by the side of the road. Dude, nice Bronco. When they shoot you, I hope your family sells it to me.

Wynnewood Police officers DID NOT, secure the crime scene, collect finger prints, perform a nitrate test. THEY DID turn the crime scene over to a long time friend of the suspect, a member of the Garvin County Sheriff's department. Medical Examiner did not take pictures of the ammunition found in the gun (no batteries for the camera). Medical examiner DID NOT order an autopsy.

Yes...exact same Medical examiner and Garvin County Sheriff's personnel that handled the Chanda Turner crime scene back in 2000. You know...the case that was about to be changed from suicide to homicide after an autopsy was finally performed (after 10 years), that is until the Medical Examiners office fired the head doctor that was going to change the death certificate.

God bless those boys for what they did. I signed the petition after Judge Candy tried to shut them down. Rain or shine they were there until the bitter end. I can't see someone working that hard unless they thought they were on to something. We need a new sheriff, all new deputies, a new DA and a new judge.

Well any man who is squirrely enough to admit in front of his wife and daughter on TV about being so drunk in the middle of the afternoon that he couldn't hear a shotgun blast has got to be telling the truth. What a winner.

I read the Grand Jury report to show my daughter how the provision works (she was going to do a report on it for civics class.) I was shocked to see that it was one page. The preliminary report reads like an indictment of the petitioners despite it saying early on that they were right in their assumption that inconistencies in the investigation warranted a grand jury. Sounded to me like they stepped on the wrong toes until I found out that the alleged suspect's father in law is the ex mayor of Wynnewood and the mother in law works for the election board. My daughter cried a little when she heard that dead people were ignored for a drug charge. Baby girl is going to do a report on Barack H. Obama instead.

"No one shot here." Is that in the police report as being stated by Tom's son?

If so, why did the news channel 4 story that ran last night say "John claims he was upstairs when it happened and heard nothing."

This doesn't add up.

Why don't ya'll check out a cell phone record or something? See if he was really sleeping or was he upstairs rubbing one out or talking to that wife or something. Cell records don't lie.

Here are the suspect cell phone call times Dec 10, 2008 from AT&T presented to the Grand Jury.

10:50AM-1:18PM five calls from suspect to wife
1:20PM wife calls suspect
1:30PM wife calls Tom Horton at work
2:10PM-2:16PM suspect calls wife (three times)
2:32PM wife calls suspect
2:41PM friend calls suspect
3:44PM family member calls suspect

According to the KFOR report last night, the suspect stated he was intoxicated & passed out. Lot of activity for an unconscious man.

Oh and also:[from the PV democrat]

“These were 12 honest citizens of Garvin County who looked at that case and made a decision,”

I nearly laughed milk out of my nose. The foreman is the judge's banker and one of the jurors lives across the street from my sister and blabbed it to no end insulting the wife. I heard all about it back in October. I think that was a raw deal.

HA! Busted. Guess he was drunk and 'butt dialing' huh? Didn't the DA subpoena those records? I never heard such a crock.
