The way that laws are currently configured give police way too much power over the average civillian.

Until we have a system in place by which the civillian population can keep a system of checks and balances with the police, there will always be heavy-handed cops overstepping their bounds.

Average citizen? A man with an extensive criminal record is certainly not an average citizen. So why is his word believed over five men who risk their life to keep others safe?

This "investigation" is nothing more than a Dog-And-Pony-Show put on by a man who is trying to get promoted to Chief of Police, a position currently unfilled.

It does sound like this guy provoked the police. But that's irrelevant in the eyes of the law. This will be a mini version of Rodney King when it's all over. Schnectady taxpayers will need to hold onto their wallets, it's obvious when this is all done, this guy will have a big payday when the courts are done settling his damages

Oh ya, just put me on the jury and I assure you all that this drunk scumbag will get nothing. If you ask me this hooligan should get his butt kicked more often. Maybe he'll learn to be a nice person. We should all be thanking the police! Remember jury folks, nothing for this scumbag.

I have to agree with you Thomas. Many times the daily risks of those in law enforcement are overlooked. I think that if people realized everytime a loved one walked out the door that the possibility is strong that they aren't coming back well, people would think differently.
As for this situation I feel that again "alleged" police brutality by somehow who a provoked the police and b was breaking the law really should be looked at a little better than putting these men's reputation in the way...

I agree...i turned in a drunk driver at work in our parking lot, he struggled, and the "po-nine" had to take him down, I was happy to see how fast the police stopped him from running (it was school bus time) he could have killed my lil bro. at the bus stop! Its silly that people would stick up for a drunk driver, the cops NEED to scare more people out of that aweful habbit, and if a good old beating is what it takes, than so be it, or dont drink and drive, or break the law especially if you dont want to get clubbed by a slew of cops! Perhaps if the idiot called the police to begin with, they could have helped arranged for a safe SOBER trip... The cops arent out to get us, but to help us too!

This guy's certainly a trouble maker, but from what I've heard the security camera's in McDonalds show some awful films. Like I said, I think Schnectady's Finest has made one man a millionaire +...Not that I agree it's right...but someone has to be held accountable

Why is this news. This happens everyday. Best way to stay safe is to stay as far away from the police as possible, do not give them an excuse to interrupt and disrupt your life.

Let me tell you all something. This guy is a piece of dirt that doesn't deserve the time of day from anyone. The officers go out everyday and deal with the worst people around. People that, if were in your neighborhood you would call these "corrupt cops" and expect something to be done. Anyone here who thinks they could be a Schenectady police officer should go take the test. I sure wouldn't want to deal with these people all of the time. And then have a boss " the mayor" who refuse to back them. This is absurd!! I am so upset that my tax dollars are going to get paid out to this dirt bag because of liberals. If he wasn't a criminal he wouldn't have to worry about dealing with the police. He has an extensive arrest record including felony burglary and robbery. Lets interview the family he robbed or the one he burglarized and see how they feel. Or maybe lets say the police didn't stop him and his drunk ass killed someone. Then it would be where are those cops? No matter what they can't win. Then we bring up all the police problems from the past that have nothing at all to do with these officers. They probably don't even know them. In then end I am sure they will be back to work and the mayor will look stupid but hey, next time something happens they can ad this "beating" with no bruises to the news article.
