My name is Holly Grylls. My family is from Ridgeley, WV and my grandfather was mayor of the small yet wonderful town for 32 years (Charles Fryer, Sr) I'm sorry but this article is full of partial truths and incorrect information. Although I respect the opinion of the author, the incorrect facts should be left out. Sharing Life Ministries is located in Ridgeley, WV. It is not yet an actual church. They have thrown Women's Conferences and supported various events but they are not a church in the building sense. Also Lynn Nelson, Sr, former owner of Nelson's Auto Sales is the parent of Susan Mason. The judge is her brother, the Honorable Lynn Nelson, Jr. "Living Free" (not "Break Free") is a small group curriculum that concentrates mostly on who we are in Christ. Many churches and ministries all across America use this curriculum for their "small groups" which are small support-type groups to help one another grow. One of the many many curriculums offered is freedom from homosexuality. Some people living a homosexual lifestyle are content, however many struggle with depression, identity issues and feel the lifestyle they are living is wrong & long to find freedom from it. Living Free helps people in this situation to find that freedom. The town is not supporting the event financially although some other small business owners who believe in what the Mason's are trying to do (bless the community, bring dun & celebration & unity & yes preach the gospel) are supporting. Seperation of church and state, as it exists in our Bill of Rights is Amendment #1 CONGRESS shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion nor the free exercise thereof. We know it also guarantees freedom of speech, which is why we are able to have this exchange.:) Seperation of church and state is not found in our Constituion nor our Bill of Rights but actually came droma letter written by Thomas Jefferson I believe. After coming to this land from a land where the state was heavily involved IN the church, the purpose was that the government NOT be involved in religion. There are a ton of quotes from the framers of our constitution that actually state religion & morality are 2 much needed components to the fabric of our goverment. Beyond all that, I just want to say this: if a ministry wants to put on a free parade, give out free pony rides, etc for 3 hours as a blessing to the town of Ridgeley and the surrounding community & a celebration of America's freedom, then spend 45 minutes having Christian music & a message long before people would actually gather for the fireworks (9:30pm typically) it should be applauded for its goodness, not questioned. It seems this article is about personal beliefs that differ from the Christian Faith and the Bible, not with a celebration in Risgeley. I as a former Ridgeley and now Cumberland resident will be attending, eating, enjoying the blessing, music & message, hoping to grow and remain open-minded. I hope others do the same. God bless!
