David, you let that idiot councilman off waay too easy. What kind of moron doesn't know the status of his own marriage. This dude wants to be re-elected by the voters? What's his platform -- I didn't know Pomona was still a city?

Tim Saunders is a new kind of stupid and stupid is what Pomona doesn't need right now.
Vote him out & take Rothman with him.

Tim Saunders is a kind and generous man dedicated to helping children and works hard to improve the city he cares so much for. Do you really think he hoodwinked anyone? Absolutely not! He discovered the truth about his non-divorce days before his scheduled wedding. His decision to go forward with a mock wedding was the right thing to do. But more important.., does anyone think it odd that an anonymous call to the paper was an act of "moral outrage"? More likely it was Saunder's political opponent or his opponent's sneaky backer that did the deed. But guess what? Saunders will win his seat in November because he is the right man for the job, and...wait for it...he cares, really cares about Pomona.

He might be a kind and generous man who really cares about Pomona, but that's not enough to justify being on the City Council. Among other qualities, you need to be able to pay attention to details and keep your affairs in order. It's not like he forgot where the car keys were, or he thought ESPN2 was on his cable package when it really wasn't. Being unaware of one's own marital status is a fundamental failure.

I can forgive if Saunders had *anticipated* that his divorce would be finalized by the time his next wedding rolled around, only to find out that the legal process was dragging slowly and things had not wrapped up in time. That would be understandable and not his fault. But to say "Hey, I just found out I'm still married!" is to declare himself either A) stupid or B) disinterested in crucial details. Either A or B raises a red flag the size of Montana about his judgment and abilities. If he can't keep straight whom he is married to, how can he play a role in managing the affairs of a city of 170,000 residents and a $220 million budget?
