Are more corrupt people going to be elected? Your town is well known for giving out unwarranted speeding tickets to out of towners. Can't your town find another way to make money other than stealing?

If you don't speed, you won't get a ticket

Society Hill is a great town. However, should you drive through Florence,Hartsville,or even a big anywhere, and was speeding, you probable would also get a speeding ticket if an officer saw you.
So what if Society Hill has name for speeding tickets. What town does not? Is it because we are small and are just singled out more? Or,is it because those who are speeding or breaking the law, just don't want a ticket? Grant it, I surly do not. I am not perfect but I respect our law enforcement.
The facts are simple. Obey the law, or pay the price. They police there or anywhere else for that matter, are just doing their jobs. Yes,the town has had some setbacks recently, but what town hasn't. If anyone is perfect, then you may cast a stone at others, but who are we to judge those council members, and even the former mayor; when we do not know the true issue.
I would like to suggest to anyone who is quick to be critical of any town, not just Society Hill; and that is to look in the mirror each day and remember the face looking back is not without faults either.I do not feel it is fair to say that Society Hill will continue to have corrupt people on council. The new mayor we have now will be a good one and the new council members now will have to pick up the pieces from before. But,it take guts to try to make a town a better place for the community and those who live there.
So before you judge Society Hill, Maybe one should look in their own backyard first.

From my previous post above..
In addition to previous post.
As far as the "out of towner's" getting speeding tickets, the sign plainly reads 35MPH. Then it picks up to 45MPH, then 55 MPH. So, unless an out of towner cannot read the signs, then he/she should not be driving in the first place. Safety first.
And Hwy. 52 is not the safest road to travel.
So what does it hurt to take a little caution. If the town makes money on a speeding ticket, then the road will be a little safer for others.
I do not want to die in a car wreck just because someone gets in a hurry to get somewhere. Do you?

I understand what everyone is saying about observing the signs, but sometimes it's not that easy. This past weekend I went through Society Hill (cute town), and was traveling from Myrtle Beach. Going through so many towns, it's hard to know what the speed limit is from one town to another. The MPH changes so many times that it can be difficult. Apparently at some time the MPH changed from 55 to 45 and then 35. I did not see the change until it said 35 and I immediately slowed down, but we must have passed a cop before that and I got hit with a ticket, which ok fine. However, my problem is that I had a peson right behind me who was riding my butt the whole time. So I thought that I was traveling too slow (61 in a 45...thinking the limit was 55). It wasnt until I saw the 35 MPH sign that I realized that something was wrong b/c most of the towns dont drop that much that quickly. But I accepted the ticket with no problem but I do think that something needs to be a little more visible for those persons who have no clue about the limits like that. Plus I'm sure that cops out there are not going to forgive someone who is from out of town and is not likely to drive another 3 hours on a weekday for a 10 am trial time. So I get it, but your signs really should be more visible instead of next to bushes or trees that no one can see. Or maybe more than one sign every 5 miles. Just a thought....

well i know for a fact Society Hills nc is corrupt my wife just received a ticket there yesterday we where driving thru. she was following me, i stopped at stop sign made a right looked in my rear view mirror to see my wife she stopped made a right behind me and before i knew it she was pulled. and he gave her a ticket for rolling thru a stop sign, a 227.00 ticket and 4 points on her drivers license. thats sooo wrong and she never had a ticket in her life 30 years the cop also said to me that the town needs to get its money so no one can tell me there not corrupt i know i will never go thru that town ever again and i will be sending emails to everyone to stay away from that towm. also will be starting a website for that town and let people be aware

The sad reality is that you do not have to be speeding to get a speeding ticket in Society Hill. Look online and see or go over to the magistrate at the first of the month and listen to everyone that has shown up due to a ticket with witnesses of their innocents only to be told to pay the fine. When the tickets are maxed for fines this shows an intent to extort funds. Officers have a range for tickets so why are SH tickets $237.50 and not just speeding, failure to stop, moving violations, etc. Just curious about one fact, Traffic violations are big crimes in SH but the bank that is within 1/2 mile of the police station has been robbed how many times this year alone? The bank does not unlock its doors during open hours anymore! I know budgets are made from the revenue from tickets but at a cost to the public. Due to the constant complaints of visitors that are ticketed unjustly, why do you think businesses avoid SH? Look at Hartsville or Cheraw and your police dept. could learn how to be servants of the law and not tyrants.

The Town of Society Hill is clearly corrupt and the voting is unanimous. Giving tickets to people 20 yards before they enter the open highway to Cheraw and the limit becomes 55 mph is calculated thieving by dishonest people cloaked with government power. Do I believe the officer actually had a radar reading showing I was speeding within 50 yards of turning left across heavy traffic before passing his speed trap? Not on your American life!

The Town Council actually presses the Chief of Police to get the speeding tickets paid without delay, so the town budget doesn't come apart. The local newspaper ran a story about just this recently. What a bunch of worthless, undeserving government thieves! Real Americans might actually toss them out of their positions.

man what a retard...why dont you go get a "fine" sheet from the department there. most of the tickets in the sc state statute are $237.50. that fine has to be written or explained if a citation is issued for an infraction of that amount. not every ticket is $237.50.

I lived in Society Hill for 11 years having moved from MN. Let me tell you, this town is corrupt. Seems no matter who gets in control, corruption continues. Also, let me warn anyone born north of the Mason Dixon Line; there is NO NEW SOUTH. I sensed the animosity from day one even tho my ancestors did not even live in this country until the late 1800's. Even an oncologist was blatantly hateful towards me because I was a "Yankee." These people are stuck in the past like a bunch of weird zombies, with the exception of a very few. I had 2 cops pull guns on me while on my own propery trying to protect myself from someone's loose pitbull who was killing my exotic chickens. They screamed at me, "Drop the gun; drop the gun." I suspect some serious inbreeding goes on here. They burn their trash, plastic included. It was like moving back to the 1950's. The schools are CRAP too. I worked there for 9 years. It was HELL on earth. Thank gawd we finally got out of there.
