Beware volunteers. I spent 14 months there helping strangers in need and showing compassion for fellow Americans and all I got was bankrupt. All of my equipment was stolen. Even new equipment I bought to replace things stolen the first time I was robbed.($85,000 +-) I've lost everything but my home and it's in limbo. And the authorities and most of the locals could not have cared any less. Some even found it humorous. They don't accept outsiders and they won't tell on thier worst enemy. I gave all I could and the thieves there took the rest. God Bless those who cared and those who didn't. It all comes back one day. I can sleep with a clear mind at nite. I wasn't there to take advantage of a bad situation, but to share what God had given me with those so truly in need. I'd do it again.
So if you go there, guard your property. To some , stealing is why they wake up in the afternoon and even the good intentioned authorities are made to wear blinders. God Bless

Broke : I am so sorry to hear that things were like that when you came to the Coast. What city did you go to? Where did these things happen?

I know my location says Hattiesburg, but that is not so.

Thank you for all that you did for the decent citizens here on the coast. We couldn't have recovered without the help from outsiders.

I was in Waveland and BSL when my property was taken. Bad luck ? Bad timing ? Or the work of the unwelcome wagon ? Who knows. Without a doubt, they will answer for what they did to me and many others.
My story made national news on MSNBC and I am indeed thankful to God for not coming home in a box. I ruffled a bunch of powerful & dangerous feathers and I knew too much about the " nitelife " of the Mississippi coast. I was basically ran out of town , dodging gunfire & having to abandon what little I had left.
On the brighter side though, I met a bunch of truly wonderful and strong people that I will always remember. I met a city that for the most part was hell bent on recovering from such a disaster. I personaly could not imagine having to deal with such adversity.
In Waveland I met " Soldiers " I can remember only a few that just took the " poor me " attitude. Only accepting this act of God without questioning why and marching on. You all have my respect. Especially Mr. John Impson & family on Mollere St.. Jimmy LaFontaine and his wonderful family. Mr. & Mrs. Ed Cook , Robert " Red " Henry , Ms. C.J. at Sears Corner " The Water Queen / Self appointed " and so many more.
Though I lost so much in property, what I learned about being able to overcome life's trials and tribulations is far more valuable. I wish you all the best and will forever have you all in my prayers. With or without Fema , you will survive and with or without my property, I will too. Soldier before Katrina , "Blessed" Soldier after Katrina.

When I left, that's all I had left and I truly believe " they " were after it. An absolute living nightmare. Alone & now unarmed thanks to "Tom " with BSL PD. I made the 400 mile ride home " with company " and they weren't supporters. A 22 hour ride from hell.

Nobody made me ride with anybody. I believe this was thier intentions but that didn't work out. I was harrassed by other vehicles for most of the trip. Some I knew , some I didn't. I was shot at 3 times in Gulfport, and once on I-10 just west of Gulfport. The followers tried unsucessfully several times to set me up but some how I was able to stay 1 step ahead. And I thank God for that.
What is normally a 6 hour trip turned out to be a 22 hour trip because I didn't want to take this mess home to my family. But for all but the last 60 miles, I had " Coastal Companions Cleverly Conspiring " if you will. Probaly 6-8 different vehicles.
And I don't think thier goal was to see that I had a safe trip.
I did, a bit unnerving at times but in the end safe. Glad to be home " In God's Country "

If you were in GP and were shot at 3 times, wouldn't someone notice? Or, leaving GP and you get shot at, wouldn't someone notice.
I believe you came here and had a shitty experience. I agree that some of the people here are asses.
I also believe that you have a very overactive imagination.
You really want people to believe that 6-8 coastal people followed you for 22 hours? Geez man, get a head check.

Wait, let me add this. Do you really think after going through the nations worst natural disaster in history that the coastal companions would have TIME or ENERGY to do something so ridiculous.

The only way they would of run you out of town is if you were breaking the law, squatting, or some sort of sex offender preying on these local folks.

Once again, go seek professional help.

Are you kidding me?? I have to agree with Used2be, you are insane. Shot at 3 times? You must have put yourself in this situation. People don't just start shooting for any reason. And you say the police or locals or Figment the magic dragon followed you for 22 hours?? LOL....I am thankful you came to the coast to assist us in our time of need, but don't blame your crappy experience on the entire Coast community.

Let me lay out the scenario out for you. The harassment in the Bay and Waveland by the THIEVES had become so unbearable that I felt that maybe if just left for a nite they'd gone on about thier business. I was wrong. I got to GP about ! AM or so. It was a Sunday. I pulled into a truckstop, which was empty, except for one unmarked truck with a 48' van. He was at the firstfuel island closet to the store. I pulled into the 2nd beside him. The driver of the truck was looking at his right side steering tire and only glanced up quickly as I pulled in. I was sitting in my truck when I noticed a "trashy" looking white suburban drive past the stop. I knew this vehicle from Waveland because he had attempted to rob my neighbor. Thru the woods that surround the stop, I could see headlight flashes and was reluctant to get out of my vehicle. After 3-4 minutes, I heard 3 "thunks", in very rapid sucession. I leaned over towards the passengers side of my truck and saw 3 holes that were just above the roof line of my truck. The driver next to me, still leaned over fiddling with his tire or something gave me a quick glance and went back to what he was doing. Or should I say acting as though he was doing. I left and headed west on I-10. At the first overpass, there was a black Hummer, another vehicle I was familiar with from Waveland, as I neared the overpass, I saw a flash. A muzzle flash. I sped away with the white suburban behind me and could see the Hummer coming down onto I-10.
This is where the 22 hour ride began. I don't care if you believe it or not. If I told you all that went on in the prior 4=5 weeks, you'd probaly see that they every thing in the end makes a very clear and believable picture of what was or still is going on around Waveland.
Even though police reports are public record, the thefts that were occuring almost night involving construction equipment don't make the news. Nothing was safe if belonged to an outsider. Locals equipment went untouched.
As for my sanity, I began to question that myself.
But after being able to reflect on weeks gone by and put certain things together that had taken place. There's nothing wrong with me. It was something I discovered and I was considered a threat to these peoples operation. If you only knew......maybe you actually do.
