Davis!
there is a davis family that lives right outside the island, they do have access. I've been on the island, its very quaint and quiet. The people are all very nice and you can olny get on the island with permission of a home owner who invites you.

just tell the guard you want to go to the post office. When denied access file complaint with post master general. that will cause a lot of problems for the island

I worked on the island for a short amount of time. They give you a sticker with numbers on it for the windshield of your car, that's the only way to get on the island. They all are a bunch of F*@!heads :)

I went there once about 20 years ago for the weekend I was a guest (friend of friend). It does have a unique landscape wiht cliffs and nice little beach. I would love to go again but I don't know the same people anymore.
If anyone knew the one day a year that you can visit pass it on.
If you'd like to see cliffs and beaches go visit Calvert Cliffs just down Rt 4. South to Lusby. The cliffs are great and so is the beach. Great day trip down to the country.

Hello All.
Just a short question:
Is Gibson Island a private property?
Last weekend I tired to get to it, but there was a booth and a barrier right before the bridge. A man in the both told me "It is a private property, you cannot go there."
I just wanted to get to the end of island and see the overlook...
Is it really a restricted area?
Thanks in advance.
Hello
Yes Gibson Island is private property, but they do have a US Post Office on the Island and they can not refuse you the right to use it. They will escort you to and from the Post Office.
thank you

Gibson Island has been there since the 1920's and has always been private. Folks who live there are fortune enough to have made this a private and gated community. I wish that we had more places like Gibson Island in our area's that we all could afford. It sure makes it nice going to sleep at night knowing that you won't have a bullet flying through your window. The island is a wonderful place and the people that live there are just as normal as you or I. They just have a little bit more funds then some of us that's all. It's a yachting community and is well respected all over the world. Someday when you get the opportunity to visits GI you should. You will notice that it is something like stepping back into time. Peaceful surrounding all through the island. The island has 24 hour security 365 days a year. What a great place.

Thank you.
Hmmm... anyway... it'd be interesting to know what authority has limited an access... the roads are still under federal jurisdiction, I believe... and - I do not believe that the very end of the island is somebody's property but the federal one.

The Island is PRIVATE! It is not open to the public and it is NOT open one day a year. Where you got this information one only nose but it is off limits to all unless you are there on business or you are a guest.
Also again, This is a PRIVATE COMMUNITY you can also be refused to use the G. I. Post Office because there is one less then 6 miles up the road. As for the roads on G.I. the county road maintenance stops at the G. I. Country School. G. I. pays for it's own snow removal, trash pickup, fire and police and they pay their own taxes. Your tax dollars don't even contribute to G.I. in way. They are totally on their own.

I Work at the country club on Gibson Island. Yes it is private, no one can get on unless you work there(they give you a private number to tell the gate), live there, have a club membership or your a guest of a member. the people on the island are very nice people except a select few. as for the one day out of the year. ive worked there for a while and never heard of this day. i think its a rumor.

sorry but it is against federal law to deny any citizen of the united states access to a us post office so before u say they can do it you can sue the island for that simple fact

whats everyone facination with the post office and if they dont let you use it sue them. Really get a grip, is it that big of a deal to you? Unless you live far down mt road you are going to have to pass the other post office on your way to GI. Also they will escort you down to the post office if you ask so dont worry if you find yourself stuck all the way down at the end of the road with a letter that must be mailed you will make it.

I am not sure about the one dayayear thing, I worked on the "island" many years ago at the CC during the summer and select times during the winter. Not sure I remember an anyone can get in day. Most of the people there are friendly and very easy going. Its quiet and I think that is the way they like it.

I guess GI paid for the USPS Building on the Island and Pays for the Employees Salaries, Electric, and other expenses. Wake you rambling idiot. Every law abiding citizen has the right to access a us government facility. If the guard wants to leave the post to escort you so be it but you will not be refused access to the USPS Office on GI.
