Gibson Island is a private property?

Hello All.
Just a short question:
Is Gibson Island a private property?
Last weekend I tired to get to it, but there was a booth and a barrier right before the bridge. A man in the both told me "It is a private property, you cannot go there."
I just wanted to get to the end of island and see the overlook...
Is it really a restricted area?

Hmmm... anyway... it'd be interesting to know what authority has limited an access... the roads are still under federal jurisdiction, I believe... and - I do not believe that the very end of the island is somebody's property but the federal one.

Federal has nothing to do with it. It's a private community. It's guarded to keep strangers out. The only way you get on the island is if you live there or have business there.

By Law it is open to the pubic 1 day a year and it is kept secret , I think It is sometime in January

Yes, The Island is a "Private" community. I don't know about the 1 day a year. The only way to get in is to know someone that lives there or be invited by someone who is a member of the club house. I do regular buisness there with the club and some of the residence, and they are in fact very nice people, not "snooty"! A common missunderstanding of most people, just because someone who can afford to live there does NOT make them "snooty". They just have comfort in knowing that they have a very safe community in which to live in. As far as I know, what you were looking for does not exist. The only thing at the end of the island is a large gazebo for private functions with a beach area. You can see, in a distance, the Bay Bridge. Other than that, there is the golf course and the homes, thats it.

just tell the guard you want to go to the post office. When denied access file complaint with post master general. that will cause a lot of problems for the island

Gibson Island is private. I live near there and have visited the Island many times. They are very nice people but want others to respect their privacy.

My reply appears to come from Alexandria, VA. I work in Washington, DC but live in Pasadena, MD. I lived in Rock Hall until I graduated from school. I always tell everyone that I am from Rock Hall and proud of it. It was a great place to grow up.

I do work on the island , you arent missing much , the majority of the houses are old and in need of repair , the people realy arent snotty.
you can get on the island to go to the post office , but they will escort you .

You could take a look at one or more to the house that are for sale on the island, I am sure that way you would have access to the people and places there to full this need you have to be where you have not been. Additionally you may want to take a tour of the school. Enjoy your day on the island. The views are wonderful.

Privately owned. I live in the Chesapeake Ranch estates. We also own our Roads and as thus pay for upkeep of them. America allows the ownership of property.
