Think they would have let her out at 3 in the morning without a ride, If she was Barbie? You know what I mean. Yes it's the race card, but answer the question. RIP my dear you didn't deserve this kind of treatment from someone who has sworn to protect and serve you.

Ridiculous that Sheriffs Department employees followed policy to a T, instead of exercising reasonable judgement.

Hiding behind "we followed policy" will save their jobs. Hope those lazy non thinking mouth breathing deputies enjoy living with this poor young girls blood on their hands.

I feel horrible for Mitrice's family. I know it doesn't fix anything, but I sense one helluva lawsuit on the way.

LASD is not responsible for her demise. She was released after LASD processed her arrest. Then she should have called on someone to pick her up and that may have happened. How she ended up in the canyon is anyones guess, but it's not the Sheriff's problem. Now the LASD have work to ascertain what happened and try to make an arrest. Obivously, trying to skip out on paying her bill or not having the money prior to ordering, shows she was aware of her circumstances. The LASD arrested her and her behavior didn't flag anything abnormal about her mental health. It's plain and simple, she left Lost Hills Sheriff Station without notifying anyone and either accepted a ride or was abducted. It wasn't the LASD responsibility to insure how or where she went since she was an adult. Perhaps she was attempting to return to Malibu for her car and maybe that's the reason why she ended up in the canyon which is not safe for a man or woman late at night. Anyway, God bless her and the family during this difficult time.

No, "Get Real" you need to get real. This woman who thought she was an alien while under the sheriff's custody, did not get a phone call to make. So how on earth would someone (her parents?) know to go to Malibu to pick her up. Neither the sheriff nor any police organization will make any phone call for you, so what was she to do? I can only feel sadness at the outcome of this situation and hope that her parents can find some type of closure. May she rest in peace.

What did you expect from the Malibu sheriffs? They're a bunch of loafers and racists. If she was white or Asian, she would still be alive.

My sincerest condolences to the young lady's family. No parent should have to go through this. I hope I misread the article wrong, because I know these 'cops' didn't release her at 3:00am {the evil hour of the morning!} This is far from over, and they have my support as to getting to the bottom of this terrible ordeal.

The LASD isn't her personal escort/taxi service to where she lived. Once you're released, most law enforcement agencies don't offer rides. No ticket, no wash and without having any money which is what got her arrested in the first place, anybody would ask to call to be picked up. I see no race issues here and playing the race card is really getting old. She needs to take responsibilty for her actions and choices. God bless this lady and her family.

The Sheriff department isn't a babysitting service, they released an adult deemed fit for release. She could of used the payphone to call for a ride. Remember those things? Every police station lobby I've been in has one

It may have been within the sherrif's department right to release her onto the street at 3:30 in the morning ... but how can it be considered ethical and humane? Her car was impounded with all of her personal effects in it and none of it was returned to her upon her release, all for failing to pay a $20 bill!?

I don't think that her family deserves to enrich themselves from a lawsuit against taxpayers, but there is definitely something wrong with this picture.

You're the biggest TROLL of them all. The race card isn't being bought. Try another angle until you realize someone other than the LASD is responsible for her death.

It's paid to protect the public. They put her life in danger with their insensitivity and now a young woman is dead for no sensible reason.

SHAME ON THE LOST HILLS STATION!
THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER LET HER GO AT THAT TIME OF NIGHT WITHOUT PROPER TRANSPORTATION.
SHE HAD NO PHONE, NO MONEY AND NO TRANSPORTATION.
REGARDLESS OF HER CRIME AND "POLICY" THEY SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THE DECENCY TOWARDS HUMANITY. THIS WOULD HAVE NEVER LET HER GO IF SHE WAS THEIR DAUGHTER, COUSIN, AUNT, MOTHER, ETC.
THIS WAS A NEEDLESS DEATH THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.
