The City Engineer of Pasadena was involved in this accident, hopefully he will put in place measures to improve safety on Pasadena's roads, if there were circumstances that could have prevented the accident. Condolences to all involved.
No measure is going to stop speeding if that was the cause.

If someone decides to drive into oncoming traffic, there is not anything anyone can do. No law, or traffic signs, are going to stop them.

"Some of the contents of the Sequoia were visible in the street after it was finally pulled upright by a tow truck, including the vehicle's rear-view mirror, a makeup brush, and a small battered backpack."

Could the driver have been applying her makeup while driving? You see that all the time, and you know that's gotta cause a lot of accidents. Inattention is the #1 cause of accidents, and you sure can't keep your eyes on the road if you are applying mascara to those eyes.

I am often on that stretch of road at that time, but not this day.

Story correction: the posted speed limit is 40mph along that stretch, not 35.

The pediatrician ALWAYS says children under 12 should be sitting in the backseat NEVER in the front.Nothing can be done about it now for this family, but may be other families can learn something.

in the article, someone mentioned that Orange Grove is a speedway.

I'm not sure if speeding was an issue in this crash, but one thing is for sure...
people drive waaay too fast on residential streets, and this needs to be clamped down.

I live near San Pasqual, and the speed limit varies between 30-35 mph. People regularly drive 50mph or more down this street. There are several bikers, I assume heading to CalTech.. one is going to get creamed one day.

Sounds like the SUV driver was running late to drop off her kids to school at that time of the morning. I wonder if they were on the way to Assumption School a few blocks away? That is a sad shame. God bless their souls and the family who is left dealing with this tragedy.
They were on their way to Assumption.

Has anyone even bothered to think that maybe the accident was NOT caused by a voluntary action by the driver but maybe a medical cause like heart attack or stroke?

Or a vehicle malfunction. I see this afternoon the Police had that section of Orange grove closed off again.

Cheating on drivers tests. You notice that about the asians too. Maybe that is why they cannot drive and end up crashing all the time.

They think they are smart by cheating on the DMV tests. They are really very stupid.
