Was speed and or hand held cell phone use a factor?I see people ALL the time in the area driving too fast.

Reinstate drivers ed in schools.
End cheating on drivers tests and licensing fraud at the DMV.
Reform the drivers licensing tests to western European standards.
Require resident drivers can read basic English.
Start serious enforcement of cell phone while driving ban.
Require all drivers be licensed - including illegal aliens (stamped "non-citizen").
Confiscate cars from unlicensed drivers.
And lives will be saved.

No diving on the wrong side of the road was the factor

It's almost impossible to drive fast at that place at 8 AM. Most likely the soccer mom turned her head towards the backseat to say something to the kids. That's a bigger distraction than any cell phone.

People are so "busy" while driving - cel phone left hand, Starshmucks right hand - that accidents like this don't surprise me. She also had to deal with the morning sun in her eyes. Accidents like this are SO preventable.

Regardless the cause, a woman and an innocent 12 year old girl lost their lives. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I can't begin to imagine what the girl's father must be going through.

They have construction on that stretch with a lane of traffic moving on the wrong side of the road with cones separating the two lanes. Last year, when the construction was more towards Allen, a car turned right from one of the streets north of Orange Grove and drove into the coned off lane. Fortunately nothing was coming the other way as she dismissed me when I honked my horn. Eventually we arrived at the traffic signals at Allen and I sounded my horn again. One of the construction workers noticed the drivers error and stopped the traffic while she moved lanes. Could this have happened this morning?

I agree. She couldn't have been looking at the road to have crossed over like that. Unless she had a blowout that made her lose control of the SUV. I walk in that area (live two blocks from the accident). That's a straight stretch of road at Martelo.

Sounds like the SUV driver was running late to drop off her kids to school at that time of the morning. I wonder if they were on the way to Assumption School a few blocks away? That is a sad shame. God bless their souls and the family who is left dealing with this tragedy.

No, I live two blocks from there on Orange Grove. The big Allen to Altadena sewer project work was completed (finally!) about a month ago. No more obstructions. It was a clear road this morning.

Please pray for the affected families of this tragic accident. They were on their way to Assumption school to drop off 2 of their kids. The 3rd grader (who was one of my child's classmate) was killed as well as the mom.

As Tessa said, there was construction on Orange Grove as there has been for that past week or so. Don't know if that is a contributing factor, but sometimes the redirection of traffic can be confusing.

The accident happened right in front of me. I was headed East. The city crews had not yet set up and closed lanes yet. In fact, they pulled up and stopped at the accident on their way to the job. I counted 6 cars. 2 at Martleo, one was a flipped suv and four cars to the West. The first car I approached was a head injury, bad shape. Second a woman with a broken foot. Two cars up on people's lawns and they appeared to be just shaken up.

My first action was to call 911. Next I told the people to stop pulling people out of their cars. If the car is not on fire, leave the people alone folks. You don't know who has spinal injuries that you just might make permanent.

I was there and saw everything! It was horrible! It all happened so fast. I was on my way to school, and then BAMB! Everything was wrecked and then I heard that there were kids in the SUV, and I started to cry.

Yes, it was extremely violent. A bunch of folks were down at the suv screaming there were children inside. If that didn't send a chill down your spine, you aren't human.

Prayers for the families affected.

If you witnessed this accident, you may need some psychological help.

Praise to everyone there who stepped up to help all these victims. You people are awesome.

It's a residential neighborhood, so there would be no camera footage. Big SUVs are more difficult to handle and maneuver, especially if she quickly swerved to avoid something like a dog in the middle of the street or a car that stopped in front of her. Sounds like there were plenty of witnesses, so hopefully we will get a clearer picture soon. Sad situation.

The City Engineer of Pasadena was involved in this accident, hopefully he will put in place measures to improve safety on Pasadena's roads, if there were circumstances that could have prevented the accident. Condolences to all involved.

Is this the guy that put in the turnabouts on Glenarm? The same guy that put those corners in on Washington with the steel posts that everyone keeps running in to?

My guess is they will do what they did at Craig. Right turn only that everyone ignores.
