I remember those days, it was that was when I first started here. I never read everything, it was impossible because it was so busy. Sadly, after all this time, we still know as much as you do, not much more than we knew on day one :( It is heartbreaking...such a long time for that family to be without answers. I don't know if I could deal with it.
I could just cry thinking of her mama. I know the bible says He won't put nothing on us we can't bear. I think that's just when it shows how resilient we humans are. If somebody had told her a day prior she would have to go through with this, I'm betting like any mom she would say oh no, I couldn't deal with it. But here this lady is 15, almost 16 months later, still hanging in there. I guess her faith and hope is getting her through this. God bless anyone who has to go through with it. Moms, dads, brothers, sisters, friends, communities, and also the victims themselves. I think I'm starting to remember why I stopped reading. I'm going to say an extra prayer today. Not just for Holly and her family but for all the missing and their families. I don't feel lucky or blessed but if I start counting the reasons I have to be thankful, I might not complain so much. My grandma used to tell me "things can always get worse, sis, enjoy today."

You obviously had a wise grandma. Isn't it great to be able to reflect on such wise advise when we didn't put a lot of value or appreciation for the advise at the time it was given.

<quoted text>Welcome back:) You know, you got me to thinking about fires. I know of so many suspicious fires that have happened in and around decatur county that it made me pause. The latest girl was burned, Mook's car was burned. We had JN going around colleges cruising for girls. That's a lot to chew on right there. Anybody know anybody that has a pyro fetish? I actually am a little bit of a fire freak myself, but I don't go setting fires or anything, lol. I had a big fire pit with a chimney on it for a grill at my old house, and I burned every limb that fell off the trees in the thing, and nearly all the leaves too. I love sitting outside at night watching a fire. Whoever has set all the fires in and around DC definitely loves to play with matches.
I'm probably leaping a country mile with this one but I looked this up online. I am not associating this with your liking to watch fire but this is sort of relevant to the conversation. I'm not saying this has anything to do with Holly but with the latest victim found burned here in TN and a fire being used to destroy a car of a victim, and reading about fires in the area, I searched and found this. I guess it's all relative and full circle. Not every person who has one or more of these traits are going to act on it but this gave me a few chills. Read if you get a chance. It's about people who have a disorder and can't control impulses and how they grow up and that disorder branches out. It also compares it to terrorism and arsonists which are organized crimes and not an impulsive behavior. Interesting and really disturbing.

I read another forum link in this thread to a missing man in dyersburg. I could not read it all but Dyersburg seems to have a LOT of disturbing things going on. People in some sort of authority can have access to things normal citizens don't have and people involved in drugs have no boundaries. Mix those two and its downright scary. I guess I was mixing the link you provided and the things I have been reading in other area forums and news links but we as citizens need to know who we vote into positions or offices and know who is protecting us. I'm quite sure I don't know who really is in their position to serve it well or who wants to exploit their authority and who just wants a paycheck. I think our law enforcement needs to be better compensated, according to things I've been told by people in those positions but as much as I want them to be fairly compensated, if they aren't, I want them to actually protect and serve. Good and bad ones. The bad ones can quickly overtake even if it is just because of greed or feeling they want to self compensate or abuse their power. Btw I'm not saying everyone does this but we all know it happens. I want to feel safe. I want my family safe. I don't necessarily feel unsafe here but there are too many instances of unsolved crimes not to feel a little uneasy.

Yes. She said it so often that my cousins and I would kind of mimic her because we heard it so much when we were telling on each other. Lol. But my grandma had a real hard life. She died in 2002 and she was in different hospitals for around 9 months before passing. I still miss her and I'm glad she told me the little things like that over and over because I'd never have remembered them if she hadn't. I paid no mind to her when I was little. My cousins and I stayed at her house during the summer in the daytime when our parents worked. Even way back then she wouldn't let us out of her sight. Sorry to bring my personal story here (guess I am trolling today) but the very last thing she gave me meant the world to me and she never knew it. I stopped by her house on my way home one night. I was living alone and broke. I didn't even go to eat or anything. I just stopped by for a few minutes and I hugged her. She said sis, I don't have any money to give you. I said Well, that's ok, I wasn't needing anything, just wanted to say hi and I love you. She said well you look worried and she walked in the kitchen and took out some aluminum foil and handed it to me. I thanked her. I didn't know what it was and I didn't look. When I got home, about a 25 minute drive, I opened it. There were 4 frozen hamburger patties she had patted out and frozen. I sat there and cried. I was so hungry and she must have known the look or sensed something. I ate TWO burgers that night. No bread. And it was one of the most delicious meals I ever had. Truth with my hand on the bible. I'll never forget that. I called her and thanked her. She was a poor woman and I didn't tell her I had no food at the time because she would have come up with something. I wish I could just hug her one last time. She was a big part of my life and she wasn't even financially able to get ahead herself. When she died, we found so many publishers clearing house magazine prescriptions where she was trying to win sweepstakes. On a card she had written a prayer for my aunt who never married. It was asking god for her daughter to be able to buy a car that was newer and that she hoped she could win some money to help her kids. That aunt never married and she didn't have as much as some of her siblings but it touched my heart seeing my grandma buying magazines trying to increase her odds. She could have saved that money of course but I guess it was her way of hoping for a bit of luck. She was a wise woman. I miss her. But talking about her makes me miss her even more. She didn't go to church but she believed and she prayed and she gave us all reasons to be thankful. I'm glad she repeated herself. Otherwise I wouldn't remember. I was a kid and thought she was just saying old time sayings at the time. I'm sorry. I must need some emotional therapy. I'll stop with my personal memory lane drive-by. I'll try to stay on topic.

Good for her! We need to teach our kids and grand kids to try to keep a clear head and a strong will with situations that may arise. It's a start and success stories motivate. Thanks for sharing. I've been Miss Debbie Downer today. Good news is hard to come by. Thank you again.

Ab no need to apologize - my mom was the same way - bless her soul - I was troubled as a youth and got in trouble a few times but she never gave up on me and I remember the most important lesson she gave me - remember that I'll always love you no matter what happens and that stayed with me always.
Yes that feel good story helps a lot. Notice she had taken self defense training which I think all parents should get their children into.

Humor for the day - especially for you Ab
Distinction between guts and balls
To those of you who are nit-pickers about the meaning of words:there is a medical distinction between guts and balls.
We've all heard about people having Guts or Balls, but do you really know the difference between them? In an effort to keep you informed, here are the definitions:
Guts - is arriving home late, after a night out with the guys, being met by your wife with a broom, and having the guts to ask.."Are you still cleaning,or are you flying somewhere?"
Balls - Is coming home late after a night out with the guys, smelling of perfume and beer, with lipstick on your collar, and slapping your wife on the butt and having the Balls to say..."You're next chubby!"
I hope this clears up any confusion on the definitions.
Medically speaking, there is no difference in the outcome. Both result in death.

That's the truth. Youth either can't or do not need to carry weapons for obvious reasons so self defense is something no person can take away from someone. Pepper spray is good but getting to it is a different stiry. Even if someone isn't coordinated enough to really excel in a defense class, what I think is important is the knowledge that comes with it. How to stay alert and learn how to react and keep a clear head. I'm sure that's hard in a bad situation but if there is no training or preparedness, the chances of getting away is near impossible, I would think. My kids never took self defense classes and I still worry with all the crime. It's never too late to arm ourselves whether it's classes or knowledge. I think one form of physical education in school should be a self defense and awareness class. It's the day we live in. Even the kids who grow up to offend will know they aren't up against a TOTALLY defensive person. It won't knock out crime but it will put a dent in allowing ignorance to be the demise of our loved ones. Food for thought. Glad you shared and I agree with you. If they learn young, they will have these skills and the smarts to possibly outwit some of these occurrences. I think I will call some of the boards of education and see if anything is being taught and if not, see what it would take to get it started. Maybe they already are and I'm just living in the dark ages.

That is a good way to look at it. I must be extra chatty and emotional today! She had so little but would give anything she had to someone who needed it. She was a pistol too though. She could make us feel about an inch tall sometimes.

You are most welcome - I try and post one of these every once in a while as this is a serious discussion forum but no matter what we all need to laugh and lighten our hearts. If Karen does read here as someone posted - I hope I made you smile too , I know you and your family need it. Thoughts and prayers to Holly and the Family including Drew.

I love fires too..we have one out back every weekend. I've even had bonfires on new year's eve in the snow. LOL Not a pyro, either, I just love to sit and relax by a pretty fire. I wouldn't connect the incidents to a pyro, though...we've had many, many incidents here of bodies, cars, houses being burned after a murder..just the most effective way in the criminal's mind to destroy all evidence, I think.
I think a pyro believes that they can be sloppy at a murder scene and fire will destroy evidence.

If we can have the 3-strikes rule for some crimes, why can't we have a 1-strike rule for those who are proven rapists and child molesters? We're keeping terrorists down at Guantanamo, because we know what they'd do if allowed to run free in the world! Same principle applies here! We know what they will do again if given the chance, so why not isolate them somewhere that they cannot get away from and offend again?
We have strike 3 rule maybe if we can get the death penalty back for murders and rapists. But our elected officials have no backbone and don't give a rats ass what the people that elected them want.
