$40,000 bail is ridiculous. That's more than most overworked, under-appreciated teachers earn in a year. They let REAL criminals out for far, far less every day. Let him out on ROR!!! What's he going to do? Run around and twist the Wrists of the innocent public?

It's a fine line that teacher's walk today. Maintain discipline, but don't do anything. Send them to the office and nothing is done there either plus you get a reputation of not being able to handle your own kids. Classes are full of these disrespectful mush heads. Teaching is not the easy job that some think it is.

The comments I read above terrify me. As if this behavior is acceptable by an adult! I do hope none of you ever come near my child!

What the story fails to mention is that this teacher taught a VE classrom, which means Varying Exceptionalities, which is just a fancy word for saying he taught children that are learning disabled. That can mean children who suffer from autism, to mental retardation. We do not know the boy's condition, and we should not jump to conclusions about him being a brat that deserved it. More than likely, he is a disabled child.

From Harllee Middle school's website-
http://www.manatee.k12.fl.us/sites/middlescho...

I can't tell you the countless stories I have heard where disabled students are injured, and even killed because they were improperly restrained. This teacher could have broken the child's wrist.

Paul David Jones was a Varying Exceptionalities teacher with Harllee Middle, which means he taught children with moderate- severe learning disabilities. He should have been taught how to properly restrain a student, and only use restraint as an absolute last means, only when the child was a danger to himself, or others.

Many teachers in these programs (and their aides) have gotten out of control with restraint. My son aided in an autistic class at his middle school and watched a girl being placed in a prone restraint, and then the "time out" closet for eating paper.

Hopefully senate bill 2028 will pass, and protect our most innocent children.

First off I agree with all of the post here "Except Candy" I find it strange that so many agree on the same issue and yet we have allowed things in this country to change to how they are. Kids or anyone don’t need to respect anyone because they are taught that they can do as they please! This world needs to move back the clock and start teaching correct moral and social ethnic!

I in now way condone what this teacher did, he has no right to put his hands on ANY student. At the same time maybe this will teach that child to listen when he's told to do, or in this case NOT do something. Children these days are out of hand, that does not mean they should be abused but they should be made to obey the adults that are put in charge of them.

Did they say it was a black child? I missed that but i think you are a bit confused. It is usually the black people who make these things racial - did anyone make a big deal over the black Sheriff who through the white prisoner out of his wheelchair? NO i dont remember hearing anything racial about that - Whites dont use the Race card, that is always Jesse and Al

There is so much more to this story than what is reported here. This teacher was a "special ed" teacher. This means the child was either learning disabled, or severely emotionally disturbed.

check the facts-

The comments such as "the kid probably deserved a kick in the gut" make me cringe. While people continue to have this attitude the abuse of children in Florida schools will continue as well.

What is wrong with you people?

MONICA BICE-

You might be right, but I do know for a fact, that
lots of students with behavior "attitudes" get put in these classes. And I, for one, wish, that since schools are being used for a catch all, that
the teachers did have more "control". AND how do
you know that this student is even hurt that badly? Was his wrist broken? What was he doing that this teacher had to restrain him so much? Obviously...something. There are shootings in schools everyday...and in malls, in colleges. I, personally, have no more sympathy. This student did something. THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED.

AND IF THE PARENTS DON'T DO IT THEN WHAT? I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR SOLUTION TO PARENTS WHO DON'T PUT THERE HANDS ON THEIR KIDS AND DISIPLINE THEM.

I'm kind of surprised that hardly anybody commented with disapproval of this teacher. Like it or not... it is not legal to touch a student. You can't hit them, massage their necks or twist their wrists. I am a teacher myself (in a low-income neighborhood) and I manage to find ways to deal with my students without being physical. Is this kid a brat? Perhaps. But this teacher broke the cardinal rule. If he can't follow something that simple, then what will he be doing next time he's touching one of his students??? Just some food for thought.

P.S. Shocking that "Cletus" thinks that a 12 year old should get the death-penalty and "Booger" is barely literate. Maybe these two should go back to the 7th grade and give us all un update on how bad these kids really are!

One of these days, people will stop going into teaching. They spend their time going to college to try to make a positive difference in kid's lives and this is how they are treated. Who needs the aggravation? One day there will be virtual classrooms!!

Yeah Monica, it could also mean that the Kid has anger issues and is not SED at all. As a former SRO I was routinely called by these teachers to their rooms because many of these kids were manipulators, were smart enough to know how the system worked, and were always threatening the teacher. Monica don't paint the picture that this teacher yanked a wheelchair bound kid that was Mentally retarded, and drolling. Many of these kids are what we used to call the Neighborhood bully. And I guess you know what eventually happened to the bully in the end.
I still say this teacher should be given a pay raise and a Medal by school Principal. Monica you meant well, and you did a good job of spewing the left wing NEA Union position.

Let me tell you I found out the other day that the gov't gives people money who's kids are add and the mom laughed at how easy it was to get the kid labled ADD and the 362 dollars a month come in handy. I have 2 kids ADD and believe me I was floored to realize that the welfare system is so screwd up. My children are ranked 8 and 2 in the classes. Don't you see how walfare works??? I hope I never come into connect with your kids either. They probably show no respect to grown ups and cry when they don't get their way. Wake up lady and stoping believing all these bleeding heart liberals.
