I am trying to recall if this is the same historical person who was kept at Fort Omaha but allowed to walk the grounds. Someone correct me, if it was another Indian leader.

If so, Mrs. Kathryn Reisser, of Omaha, NE, did much to promote awareness of his place in history. She knew many things about what happened and tried to preserve the historicity of the Fort Omaha campus, fighting a tower that was going up in that location, back in the 1990s.

She would have been pleased to read this Congressional decision to place Chief Standing Bear on the reverse side of the coin.

Standing Bear on the $1 coin would be very classy.

Thank you, Mr. Fortenberry, for acknowledging the greatness of Luther Standing Bear. Such an eloquent man, he (and you likewise) deserves great respect. Perhaps people will be inclined to seek out the wisdom of this gentleman.

It does bring tears to my eyes to read Standing Bears words. Too bad his wisdom was not heard then. Too bad his wisdom is not heard now. Thank-you, Jeff Fortenberry, for hearing. And feeling. And responding.
