Are you people for real? I cannot believe how poorly you people tip. If you can't afford to tip your waiter or waitress, you should eat at McDonalds! Do you even realize that those people bringing you food and running back & forth and back & forth refilling your drinks 20 times during a meal are doing it for THE TIPS? Can you even imagine their sore feet and hurting backs? Some of these kids are putting themselves through college and/or supporting their own children while doing so. Have a heart and remember that for crying out loud! What if it were your mom or dad or daughter or son? By the way, if you can spend $50 on a meal, you can leave a $5 bill on the table and THAT'S THE MINIMUM! Geesh.

Tips are not guaranteed. If you give crappy service then don't expect a good tip. I'm a very very very generous tip when the service is good. When the service is bad I still tip, but don't expect anything over 15% if the service is bad. I've only ever not left a tip twice. Once was when our waiter actually never took our order and filled our drinks once and then insulted my wife. The other was when a waiter messed up our order then called me a liar and told me I should eat what the cook prepared.

I worked as a waiter my wife did as well. I don't take it out on the server if the kitchen screws up. I don't take it out on the server if the bar screws up a drink order. When a server doesn't refill drinks or act civilized then they don't get a good tip.

Well, VADoc, I understand all that, BUT what about those servers who bust their humps waiting on their customers and being kind/thoughtful/attentive in the process and still get no tip? THAT is what I'm talking about. Customers can be very demanding and rude, get really good service and STILL walk away without leaving a tip. In fact, I've had people "dine and dash" and guess who gets stuck with that bill? That's right ... that meal comes out of the server's check! People can be real buttholes and those are the ones I'm tired of - chastising. The only thing that gets me through some days is KNOWING that "what comes around goes around" and NOTHING goes unnoticed or unpunished by God.

If I have a server that's actually worth a shit, I will tip them. However, MOST servers in Parkersburg is not worth a shit at all. They spend all their time chatting with their friends and coworkers. If they spent any time doing their jobs, they'd realize bigger tips. The ONLY exception that comes to mind now is Willie at the Texas Roadhouse. He is a great waiter. Other than that, y'all should quit bitching about getting free money and work a little bit for it.
Wanna trade jobs for just one day? No? I didn't think so!!! No "free money" here! I work my ass off and have been complimented more times than I can count. Know what though? Compliments don't PAY THE BILLS, Buddy. I'd rather be compliments for a job well done with a decent (not exorbitant) tip.

If my meal is 50 bucks I will leave a 10 dollar tip. Those people are busting there arse. If you get bad service then don't go back. Waiters and waitresses are people to and sometimes are having a difficult day. Maybe a close friend or relative are gravely sick.

If you are such a wonder watiress Hard at Work, then why are you on here pissing and moaning about not getting any tips? I've been a bar tender for over 10 years, I know about customer service and I see how waitstaff performs, both successfully and otherwise. Doing your job equals getting your tips... Maybe check your attitude, you'll do better. OMG, my life is soo hard...
WRONG! But nice try. I treat every customer like I would my own family. Why? Because somebody, somewhere loves them too AND that's what I've been taught to do all my life. Plus I know what comes around goes around. I give good service, but it is unacceptable to leave a $2 tip or no tip at all when you run a server's legs off and receive even good service - never mind excellent service. Some of the very people who "compliment" me as they leave have not left tips on the table. I appreciate the praise, but compliments don't pay the bills - only money does that.
