Don Lowery has been elected the new Sheriff of La Paz County. After the conditional-provisional and early ballots were counted Wednesday evening, the final unofficial vote totals showed Lowery (D) with 2,769 votes to 2,632 for the incumbent, Hal Collett (R).
While the election was held on Nov. 4, the margin between the two candidates was such that the winner could not be determined until the outstanding ballots had been counted. That margin was 107 votes, and 446 ballots were still outstanding.
Lowery is currently an officer with the Colorado River Indian Tribes and serves as CRIT's Homeland Security Emergency Management Director. Collett had been seeking his third term in office. He was first elected in 2000.
