Recall petitions on sheriff not submitted

The recall campaign against La Paz County Sheriff Don Lowery has ended, since petitioner Joyce Curren did not submit petitions to County Elections Director Donna Hale March 23.

It was Curren’s second attempt to unseat Lowery. She had to get at least 1,351 valid signatures.

The first recall was in August 2010 with a deadline to turn in petitions Nov. 29.

Curren sent a letter Nov. 15, 2010 to the La Paz County Elections Department requesting to withdraw the original petition, which was numbered RC-10-01. The new petition, which Curren took out Nov. 23, was numbered RC 10-02.

In her statement on the recall petition, Curren stated she did not like the sheriff’ hiring an attorney without the Board of Supervisors consent; suggesting he puts his friends in administrative offices; and an allegation of covering up criminal activity.
