CRIT Chairman Daniel Eddy, Jr. convicted of reckless driving
Staff Reports
Wednesday, August 27, 2008 1:30 PM MST
Colorado River Indian Tribes' Tribal Chairman Daniel Eddy Jr., 63, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in San Bernardino County by the California Highway Patrol June 14.
Eddy was arrested on US Highway 95 at milepost 27 after law enforcement observed him attempting to turn southbound onto US 95 from the open desert at approximately 7:30 p.m. Eddy was initially stopped for tinted windows. No other parties were involved in the incident.
After a no-contest plea, Eddy was convicted of reckless driving and sentenced Aug. 13 in a Needles Justice Court by Judge Joseph R. Brisco to three years probation, to pay a fine in the amount of $1,221, and to attend California Wet Reckless Program. The program is an option to those facing a non-injury DUI charge in the sate of California.
The reckless driving conviction requiring the wet program offense is considered a DUI offense by insurance companies. As it is also considered a DUI first offense if the convicted party is again faced with drunken driving charges in a 10-year period. The plea functions in a way so the convicted individual can still retain his or her driver's license.
Attempts to contact Eddy in regard to the June incident were unsuccessful. He announced a six-week leave at the CRIT council meeting Aug. 8.
Eddy has been actively involved in the CRIT Tribal Council since 1980, and has held the position of chairman since 1988. His current four-year term concludes Dec. 31. It is unknown if he will run for re-election.

thought i'd comment. For ethics and morals, mr. eddy should voluntary "step down". I have been told a past tribal leader voluntarly removed hinself from office, because He knew he was not committed to the position.
How long will the tribal council look the other way when one of their own do something wrong.
thanks

The incident occured in June - why the delay in reporting? A private citizen's name would appear in a much more timely way - obviously political correctness was a consideration in this case.
