A special election for the Colorado River Indian Tribes has been set for Sept. 25.
CRIT Treasurer Dennis Welsh Jr. and Councilman Merving Scott Jr. are being recalled.
The petition drive to recall Welsh was led by Tina Evans, who collected 415 signatures. Vinton Tahbo obtained 420 signatures recalling Scott. A minimum of 366 signatures was necessary to recall each of the councilmen.
This makes the third time for the recall attempt of Welsh. He was recalled Dec. 31, 2009, and was returned office March 5.
The second attempt to recall Welsh was April 16, when Vinton Tahbo took out petitions. Tahbo met the June 15 deadline with 449 signatures, but 120 signatures were removed, making 329 signatures valid. A minimum of 366 signatures was required.
Tribal members will be asked the question to recall Welsh or Scott with a yes or no response.
The last council member to be recalled was former Treasurer Daphne Hill-Poolaw Dec. 13, 2008. She lost by 420 votes.
