Shots fired during undercover drug buy in Carpentersville

A police sting operation turned violent in northwest suburban Carpentersville today when undercover officers acting as narcotics buyers shot at a man who had tried to flee after selling drugs to the officers, authorities said. Full Story

I realize how serious this was. I watched it end at the McDonalds at Prospect and Irving Rd. Ther were approx. 40 police cars there. Did they have to shoot him in the head? I am sorry if I have this response but why the head? It is still totally unclear if any of the suspects shot at the police at any time? Please clear this up.
