So, according to sam, not only is murder the act of a sane mind, but apparently being "Evil" is also a normal state. Because Evil people who commit murder are sane people just like the rest of us who are neither Evil or Murderers.
No wonder it hates guns, shes afraid she will get shot by a "Normal" person.
So apparently you have been taking Mutt's course on "Taking Stuff and Twisting It Into Something It Isn't." Please show me where I said evil was normal. "Normal" was being used in the context of crazy/insane v. not crazy/sane. There are evil people who are not crazy. I stand behnid that. And there are evil people who are crazy, and good people who are not crazy, and good people who are crazy. Do you disagree?

Beyonce is okay. harmless. Also: NOT THAT TALENTED. But she's ambitious and that makes for her mediocre talent.

But: She also seems like a very nice person. So i like that about her.

I don't believe in evil as a supernatural thing. I believe people who are "evil" are just very, very damaged, and were at a young age. doesn't excuse their bad actions, of course.

I understand what you are trying to say, but I am not buying into it. Lots of people the world over live in "War Zones" and they manage to refrain from killing each other over a verbal slight, just as most in the hood refrain from doing.

I see you as saying that the gangbanger mentality is what causes these peeps to view murder as normal and acceptable. But to me that is equivelent to saying that the gangbanger mentality is CRAZY!

Is it a genetic flaw? NO
Is it treatable? Yes
Is it a learned response? Yes

But non of that makes it "Normal" in my book. It is a concious decision to pull that trigger, and when you do, unless you are defending yourself or another person you are acting in an abnormal fashion.

"Honor" killing is not justifiable or normal. Not in Chicago, and not in Afghanistan.

Oh, and F* u sam.

I am trying to have a conversation about a difficult topic that may make us look at things from someone else's point of view.
I couldn't for one minute fathom carrying a gun on my hip at all times, but I've tried to look at this from your point of view and understand that you have had experiences that have caused you to want to carry a gun at all times. I'm asking that instead of writing a whole lot of people off as crazy, you try to see how their experiences have caused them to act the way they do.
How can we change their environment/way of thinking so that they don't shoot each other up on a daily basis over petty things? To do that, we have to start where they're at. We might not like it, but they're americans too.

Look at this way Squishy,

some girl gets raped, so her father kills her. Calls it an "Honor killing".

You can make the argument that hey!
it's the way they live,
its their environment,
its tradition,
its written on some parchment....

But when it comes right down to it....Isnt it crazy to kill your daughter because she was raped?

Thank you for this well thought out post.
In our Township Republican meetings, our Chairman has been emphasizing that we are part of a community and we need to look out for our neighbors. Some of the "old timers" have voiced some complaints that we are not a social organization. My response has been that we are not a social organization, but we are a civic organization. We cannot expect people to vote for us if we do not show that we first care for them as our neighbors and show that we want to make a difference in their lives, not just our pockets. AND they will know if we are not sincere.
I think that our government officials cannot continue with their "do as I say, not as I do" attitudes. People have no respect for hypocrites or their rules.
I think it's a very fine line to walk, between doing too much and too little. I also think that, across the board, people are more willing to accept hypocrisy from their elected officials as you go higher up, as long as they have the right letter after their name. Township board...nope, get that loser out of there. Congressman, Senator, President...well, that one little thing isn't so bad.
Of course, it's the exact opposite it the individual has the wrong letter after the name. In that case, let's play gotcha with whatever minor thing we can think of.

And the pussification of America continues.

I remember my physics teacher having questions on the tests with scenarions like "the elevator door opens but the elevator is not there. Frank does not notice and falls down the shaft. If he was on the 9th floor how many floors will he drop before terminal velocity?"

I remember it making the national news when a chicago public school teacher used drugs in his math questions. "Jorge has 10 kilos of coke. If he sells equal shares to Paco, Cornelius, and Lupe, and a different amount to...." that type of thing. I think he had to resign.

Yeah, never mind that the kid probably FAILED the flipping test. No, lets not focus on that, lets instead focus on something else that takes the kids failings out of the spotlight.

This is how sam will be when he becomes a mother.

Of course it's crazy. But what I'm trying to say is that the father does not see himself as crazy. And if you were to walk up to him and say "Hey, didn't you know it's crazy to kill your daughter because you think she dishonored you?" he would look at *you* like you were crazy. In his way of thinking what he did was perfectly normal.

We are not going to successfully change anything - honor killings to gang retailiation - if we simply write these people off as crazy and put them in jail or execute them. Without giving the society that breeds these activites something to replace these beliefs, we'll only be successful in creating martyrs.

OK, I hope that makes sense. I've only been interruped 10 times while trying to write that!
