Really not too surprising. When I go into Johnson County on medical appointments I often wonder who is living in those mansions. Truth probably is, people not too different from me but way over- extended financially. All taxpayers are pushed to the limit supporting the millions who will not or cannot work and those who work but end their money come to some foreign country, then turn around and accept welfare and food stamps here. Of course, bad times can happen to anyone but buying way over your head is risky.

I don't know that they're necessarily referring to the families in luxury homes, though I agree that many of those people ARE probably overextended. There are many working class neighborhoods (modest homes/apartments) in Johnson County -- Olathe, Overland Park, Merriam, Lenexa, etc. There may a higher number of pricey homes in Johnson County than elsewhere. But there are A LOT of us that live paycheck-to-paycheck,or at least on a lean budget, just like people in almost every other county in the country.

15 years ago you could walk into homes in "New Leawood" and find no furniture, no drapes and people struggling to live day-to-day. This is not new to Johnson county it has been prevalent and hidden behind closed doors and credit cards. JOCO residents are obsessed with defeating each other with the newest cars, best schools, high fashion. Just go to "Nick and Jakes" on 135th and look around it really is sad and pathetic.

Do you really think a Mortgage company would really give a loan to someone you makes no or little money? GET A CLUE. THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK.
