Squalls bury NY county under nearly 100 inches snow

While we do get substantial snowfall amounts in upstate NY the actual totals are often exagerated. If you look at the pictures you will see 5 to 6 foot people with their heads at or above the snow level. This is sixty to seventy two inches. Even our local weather men exagerate the snowfall quite regularly. They will say 12 inches yet the snow is not deep enough to rise to the bottom of my trucks rims. The tires are 4 inches from ground to rim. I did some weather observing for a local station a few years ago and reported a 3 inch snowfall while others reported by the foot and was chastized for my observation. My method of measurement was a graduated cylinder. Theirs a yardstick stuck randomly in the snow. Even so if you are used to large amounts of snow it's an inconvenience just as hurricanes and bugs are to you folks.
