I'm planning on attending a local homecoming with my family for the first time, I was curious about homecoming mums? Wondering what age girls wear them and what local customs or tradition are commons here?

Ha! When I moved to Paris, years ago, from another state, I couldn't imagine why girls wanted to wear funeral flowers on their chests at a homecoming!! That was totally foreign to anything I'd ever seen. Nobody, where I was from, would ever think of a mum as anything but something sent to a corpse. LOL...

My daughter had one at Crockett last year. A friend had made it for her. They kept it in the office until time to go home. I did see last year that parents bought girls little garter type mums. The girls either wear them on their arms or legs. Not quite as big as a mum, and a lot cheaper.

"Debate" homecoming mums have been a tradition since I was young. I remember my sisters having triple mums but that was back in the day.

When I was in high school my mom bought me one for every homecoming from kindergarten until senior year. I loved picking out my ribbon and stuff on it when I was a kid.

I remember my sister and that triple mum. It was hilarious. I guess the thing I remember the most was one of the flowers had to go on her back.

Hee ...hee. I remember back in the 80's that the mums got soooooooo big and outrageous that when the girls tried to pin them to their shirt or sweater, it about pulled it off, it was so heavy. There were stuffed toys and all kinds of ornaments attached to the ribbons and triple mums..... I wonder if they still go to those extremes? The FLORISTS were making a killing!!

Do they even use real flowers anymore?
