With everyone so scattered and families so fractured, do you do the traditional thing at holidays?

This year we will. It's usually just hubby, kids and myself. Seems like everyone is always so busy these days. I've decided this year to try and get as many together as possible for Thanksgiving. So far the count is 18. I'm just wondering where we are all going to sit! Would a bring your own chair invite be appropriate?????

With the Plaza already decorated for Christmas before Thanksgiving and stores it gets old before Christmas gets here. With so many people just making it on part time, temp jobs Christmas has got to be less for many. My belief is that Christmas should just be for children and adults who can afford to give themselves Christmas all threw the year should just donate to kids. Many people become very depressed all threw these 2 months every year because of all the expectations put on them due to this one Holiday. But everyone should do what they have been doing all there life and be joyous. I do believe though that New Years is partly such a celebration because Christmas is over. I'm not a scrooge just practical.

LOL, that's a great idea!! Maybe a cardtable or two would also help.

Point taken. When we look at the past expectations and try to arrange our holidays around what use to be traditional, then we fail to realize that this isn't America like it was 50 years ago. We can do what we can to make it a happy time, but looking back at and longing for the way it was, might not be a good idea.

Our family use to do the traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday but all the kids are grown and we have children , its way to complicated to get everyone together. So this year its just gonna be me and my Husband and kids. Less Stress!! LOL

We won't be getting together with all of the relatives, either. It's way too complicated trying to arrange a day when everyone can be there. I agree that the way families use to celebrate the holidays isn't how it is now. More family members scattered to the wind and just can't make the trip. With FB and the such, people just don't do the "in person" thing now as much.
