Whats the deal with Goodwill employees getting first dibs on donations? I saw a older man donating a lamp that matched the one I had broken to a set I had. I called Pier One Imports at the time mine had broken for a replacement. They had stopped carrying that particular brand. So when I was dropping off my donation, I saw the guy with the lamp so I went in to see if there was a certain time they would be putting the lamp on the floor for sale. The worker said maybe a day or two depending on the sorter checking to see if it worked. A couple of days went by and I finally went back to the store to check. Another girl told me that the lamp had been purchased by the girl who I first talked to. I suppose this isn't really a big deal, but I wanted that lamp. I'm just wondering how many of the "good stuff" is not being put out on the floor for the shoppers to buy, if the employees are getting first dibs? Is this a "perk" all thrift store employees get to do? If so, I want to apply at the Goodwill too. I guess I could have something more important to gripe about but.....I REALLY WANTED THAT LAMP!!! LOL!

This has gone on for years! It's very frustrating to see that they grab all of the good stuff including furniture and clothing.

There was another thread on this about a year ago. Someone mentioned that it's against their policy to purchase stuff but I don't see how Goodwill can monitor all of their employees.

they all do it.my friend used to work at the salvation army store on kaufman and she said that was the best part of working there.whenever someone dropped off a donation if she and the others that worked in the back room wanted it they stashed it in there hiding place and get it for themselves instead of putting it out on the shelves for sale. even the manager did it to so they couldn't get in trouble.she finally quit because kathy the manager didn't like her because her daughter was married to a black guy.

WOW Girl, you're friend just spilt the beans! Seriously, that seems to be a store practice that isn't very fair to the shoppers or the folks that donate. I know when I first stepped foot in the store, I was impressed with how it was set up. Once I started looking around, I didn't see any electronics such as camcorders....digital cameras...MP3 players... ipods...DVD players. Surely items such as these are donated too unless these are the "first dibbs" employees put back?
I have a question for you now, why is it that phrase "black" always have to be throwed in the mix?
It would seem since the manager and your friend were both guilty of "stashing" she couldn't very well say she was a honest employee to start with!

I went to Goodwill to buy some T shirts. The girl at the register had gone in the back looking for something. There was nobody else to run the register and the other employees were walking around clueless. There was a line of people waiting to check out. I waited and waited and when the girl finally showed back up she was moving slow as molasses. I finally just pushed my stuff aside and left. They need to get people working there who have a clue.

my friend don't have any reason to lie.there was another older indian lady that didn't get treated bad just my friend and she is indian to.it's because like l said her daughter was married to a black man.l also know this because my boyfriends mother is friends with a lady that cleans her church.this lady works there now and she told my mother that the manager watches her all the time like she was going to steal something.this lady is a christian and she don't need to steal.she's black thats why.she told my mom that the manager and that other indian woman talk about her behind her back all the time.l wouldn't put up with it,they got something to say to me they ought to say it to my face! mom told her to tell the manager that the indian woman talks about her behind her back and to tell the indian woman the manager talks about her behind her back.that would fix both of there wagons.my moms friend is a very sweet older lady in her 70's and go's to church and tries to take care of her grandkids and to get treated by a white woman that spends all her time lying about people and pretending she's a good person when all she does is go to the casino. who is she to treat this lady like this?that just really makes me mad.l don't care who thinks l'm lying.

I refuse to donate anything of value to Goodwill or Salvation Army. I'll throw something away before I let the employees get it.

Kathy Tucker? I thought she quit? She'a joke! She always had that fake laugh! I stopped shopping there because their prices were too high. Major Ellis should make the workers pay full price, same as the customers pay. That would cut down on the stashing. Plus it's not right that they get to keep anything of value and send out what they don't want. I also think letting their favorites get discounts isn't right.

hahaha, she needs to quit again!l call my boyfriends mom my mom so don't let that confuse anyone.l told mom a minute ago that her friend should go to that major you mentioned.is he over the store? l wish people knew this lady and then everybody would know the reason l take up for her.mom says that even as old as she is she struggles to raise her greandkids and that manager treats her like s**t!thats just not right.she told mom that kathy is mad at the other lndian woman now and said that on the weekend kathy is off the others has to watch her.see how 2 face kathy is?one minute she's buddy buddy with one then the next they are on her s**t list.kathy is so scared someone else is going to get what she wants.and she is always the last person to leave the store.wonder what she takes?so yeah your right kathy is a joke and she has no business being manager.this lady told my mom that in the winter time she smokes in the bathroom and you can ask any one of the others cause they all know she does.if everybody would quit being so scared of her and tell on her they would probably fire her.my moms friend told her that eversince her son got divorced she don't do her job like she suppose to and takes it out on everbody else when she gets mad at her son.everbody needs to go to the store and meet this lady friend of my moms and you will see how nice she is and that kathy does her wrong because she's black.

Did she have to stash the doo-dah and go back and get him later? Tell your 'friend' that theres no need for all that. There are shitloads of booga booga-doo dahs wanting to screw a fat nasty oogly white slob. Banging the doo-dah may be what is causing her to steal. Can't wait till we get to support her little brownies.

When I "donate" something to Goodwill or Salvation Army, I could care less what they do with it. I'm usually cleaning out my garage or closets and take it there to get rid of it.

The best local goodwill is in Sulphur Springs. Used to only donate to christians in action. That went right back into the local community. I hate to see people pretending to drop off things and actually loading up stuff at night. Expecially the guy who drives all those old lincolns and is known to raid cemetaries for those old fences he puts around his blow up swimming pool. Get help

man I love GOodwill. I have not been there in so many years, but my grandmother used to take me when I was a child, the smell of that place reminds me of her..and the flea market. I always wondered if they really had fleas!

I would also be upset about the lamp, and the employees stashing items, especially after the person you talked to about the item, actually purchased the item!!
